Imagine not being able to hug your loved ones, or losing the language to tell them you care. What would it be like to find yourself unable to do the activities that have brought you joy your whole life, and the tasks that keep your world together? This progressive deterioration of life quality is what people with Neurodegenerative Diseases face every day.
My dad was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when I was just three years old. It was painful that as I was growing up, learning new skills, conquering new challenges, and ascending to new heights, my dad was just as steadily losing control of his body, and I was powerless to stop the disease’s progression.
I started #BecauseYouCan, a nonprofit that addresses quality of life concerns for individuals living with Neurodegenerative Diseases, to restore a sense of connection and possibility to lives so harshly defined by physical limitation.
#BecauseYouCan athletic fundraising events like this ride through the Dolomite Mountains, bring people of all abilities together to scale personal ‘mountains’ for a cause.
I’m conquering my challenge in order to help people with Neurodegenerative Disease tackle theirs... because I can.
Please help me reach my goal of $5000 in order to fund quality of life-enhancing tools and experiences for people with these Neurodegenerative challenges. There are so many support systems, capabilities, and experiences that we all take for granted that are in fact quality of life-keystones.
