March 25TH was the happiest day of our lives. This is the day we found out we were going to be parents to our first child. Little did we know what curve ball life was going to throw at us. It started like any normal pregnancy. We did everything by the books. We went to every doctor appointment, and took all the proper prenatal medications. June 25TH, we found out we were going to have a beautiful daughter; Raylee Jo Pearson. For 19 weeks now, this was the day we had been waiting for.We started shopping and preparing for our beautiful princess's arrival. At this point, there were still no signs of any complications. According to doctors, she was still healthy as could be. July 15TH was the worst day of our entire lives; the day we found out our baby girl, Raylee Jo, has a neural tube defect called Anencephaly. 10/23/2013 7:40pm it was time for our baby girl to be here through emergency csection 6 weeks early, we were not prepared at all but we were ready to hold our baby girl, she was such a fighter through everything. family friends and strangers got to see our beautiful baby girl, the doctors told us she would only live for a few minute at most and she sure did prove them wrong. 10/25/2013 we was finally ready to take her home with us we made it home with a nice welcome from friends family and the community. 5:25pm our little angel grew her wings and was welcomed into haven, She flew up to heaven in her daddy's arm and holding on to mommy's finger with her strong little grip

Anencephaly is the most severe type of neural tube defect (NTDs). The neural tube is the developing structure that becomes the brain, skull and spine. NTDs, in general, are one of the most common birth defects, occurring in approximately 1 in 1,000 live births in the United States. Anencephaly occurs when the top, or cephalic portion, of the neural tube does not close properly during fetal development. This results in a partial or complete absence of the brain and skull. If carried to term, babies with anencephaly typically die during delivery or shortly thereafter. Currently, there is no cure or treatment for anencephaly and the cause is unknown
