Evan's Top Surgery Fund

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Evan Jacob Torres. I am a 22 year old transmale (Female-To-Male).

I have been struggling with my identity throughout my life. As a child, I have always been shy and introverted "“ socially awkward even. Growing up, it had always bothered me why I continued to feel so different and out of place with myself.

About two years ago, I began to put the pieces together and make sense of everything. Upon realizing my identity, I felt true liberation to have finally figured out the internal struggles and puzzle I was to myself - that I was in fact transgender.

However, this liberation also triggered severe depression. Being transgender is an extremely difficult way of life in all aspects - and a very expensive lifestyle than the average person. It is difficult to live freely and socially. There is constant fear, anxiety, and sadness. I struggle every day and constantly worry about how or when I will be able to pay for (a required) chest reconstruction surgery that is not covered by insurance. I also wish to be able to afford my own vehicle and apartment, but with an additional surgical procedure, it makes it near impossible to know where finances should be firmly dedicated toward. If I could seek help from my family, I most definitely would. But not only is my family hesitant to support my lifestyle, it's a small and struggling one.

I have a degree in media arts and work as a freelance graphic designer/artist. I have taken commissions to help fund my transition. I have taken up odd jobs here and there just to make a buck to keep my transition running smoothly. Unfortunately, nothing has profited me to make a slight dent towards this massive medical bill. The money that I have managed to save so far has gone towards a new wardrobe (to reflect my gender), doctor visits, hormones, living expenses, and college loans. Even with minimum wage employment, I wouldn't be able to afford this on my own anytime soon. I have also tried applying for the Jim Collins Foundation surgical grant, although I was not selected.

Here's the fun part, if you should be so generous as to donate, I would be happy to give you a gift of original artwork, sent to you digitally, of anything you would like. Pet portaits, original characters, graphic design - the options are limitless.

Here is a link to my portfolio to sample my work and get an idea of what I could create for you: http://ejtorres.weebly.com/

It is not certain how much the surgery will exactly cost personally - it depends on the surgeon - but it's in the range between 5k-8k.

Please understand that this procedure would not only help me become a happier person in the long run, but is also necessary to legally be registered as male. Any donation you are willing to give will go to a very good cause. Even if you cannot afford to, just spreading the word will be just as good of a deed.

Thank you so much for your time!
