Send 2 Artists to FEMINIST ART CONF

Donation protected
Calling all women, feminists, menstruation activists, bioart lovers, contemporary art lovers, blood lovers, menstrual cup evangelists, taboo breakers!!!

I need your help! My collaborator and I were invited to participate in the Feminist Art Conference (FAC) for the second consecutive year. FAC is an incredible multidisciplinary conference held in Toronto, Ontario that brings together artists, activists, and academics to engage in safe, intersectional dialogues about contemporary feminist issues. FAC is the type of event that affects the collective unconscious. FAC has successfully raised funds to support the growth of the conference, but we need YOUR help raising artist travel funds. This year's conference will be held at OCAD over March 7-8th and includes a weeklong lead-up art exhibition where 10 Beauty in Blood images will be on display.

Why is it important that Beauty in Blood participate in FAC?
The answer to this question is two-fold. First, Jen's participation on the healthy image panel will give a much need voice to the role of menstruation in our society and how deeply it affects girls and women. By attending and speaking on this panel, I will be able to introduce more than 175 people to the politics surrounding menstruation as well as raise awareness for the menstrual cup. This product revolutionized my life and I believe it could do the same thing for other women if they just knew more about it.

Second, FAC needs videographers to document the conference from start to finish and they have requested my collaborator's cinematography skills. Interest in FAC continues to grow and documenting this exciting direction in feminist art is simply a must for posterity's sake! The Guerrilla Girls once asked "Where are the girls?"; they are at FAC and must be documented for history. Women are often left out of history and textbooks, not to mention galleries and museums. FAC gives women artists a voice and venue to engage in intellectual conversations about the multiple feminisms in modern society.

What exactly is Beauty in Blood?
Beauty in Blood is an abstract macro photography art project that examines the fluid dynamics between menstrual blood and water produced by spousal collaborators, Jen and Rob Lewis. To see our creative process in action: www.beautyinblood.com/video.html.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Spousal collaborators, Jen and Rob Lewis, started making these inventive bloody creations in the fall of 2012. They were instantly welcomed into the feminist art community and participated in 8 group exhibitions throughout North America in 2013, such as Toronto's Annual Feminist Art Conference and the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit's "Women" Show. In March 2014, 4 pieces will join a group exhibition at the Urban Artroom in Gothenburg, Sweden along side 9 other artists. Jen received her Bachelors of Arts in the History of Art from the University of Michigan where she focused her studies on contemporary art. Rob is a self taught photographer and videographer through his lifelong love of skateboarding. Together their work gives voice to the female experience through a whole new lens.

ABOUT FAC: The Feminist Art Conference is committed to creating a supportive and accessible space along the lines of solidarity. The aim of the conference is to bring together feminist artists from a myriad of experiences to openly share their motivations and intentions. Artists and attendees contribute to a productive public discourse in an anti-oppression, anti-hierarchical framework. The committee hopes that this event helps to initiate collaborations that increases awareness of multiple feminisms, urgent feminist issues and ultimately, constructive social and political change. Last year's conference sold out within 1 week of launching tickets on Event Brite, had 175 attendees, and garnered interest from as far away as Columbia and Kenya.
