At CareNet, we rescue surplus food that is destined for landfill and make it available to people who need food relief, in a dignified and respectful way.
We currently have a big problem that we need your help with.
The cost-of-living crisis has seen so many more people accessing our service, that we are now facing the grim reality of having to limit how many people can access our service. This can also result in many more people experiencing homelessness, which is why we partner with The Good Box, a homelessness charity providing a range of high quality food and hygiene items packaged in a beautiful gift box.
At the same time, we have an overwhelming amount of food rescue that we have to say NO to – JUST BECAUSE WE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH COLD STORAGE!

This is where you, our wonderful community, can help us to achieve our goals.
Through this Go Fund Me Fundraiser, we are hoping, through the generosity of our community, to raise the funds we need to overcome our logistical barriers, so we can say YES! to food rescue, and YES! to people who need food relief.
Our Homelessness Charity Partner, The Good Box, who we currently share our space with, will be joining us on this journey to provide further relief.
With our community’s support, we can reach these milestones:
- $30,000 - purchase a refrigerated container to increase our cold store.
- $80,000 - move into a warehouse to increase our logistical operations.
- $125,000 - we can achieve the above, PLUS buy an electric pallet jack.
- $200,000 - we can achieve all of the above, PLUS launch our Sustainability Social Enterprise, which will make reduce food waste and make food more accessible to everyone who needs it.
- $360,000 achieves everything, plus gives us security on a commercial 3-year lease.
Who are we?
CareNet is a food relief charity that:
- Rescues food from supermarkets, diverting it from landfill.
- Provides an access point for people to access food relief.
- Distributes food to other food relief charities in the community.
We started in 2019 as a small program, established through the Manningham Christian Centre. Since then, we have increased our distribution of food 20 times over. We have gone from distributing 150kgs of food a fortnight, to over 3 tonnes of food a week!
We hope the community can help us achieve our goals to use one problem (food waste), to solve another problem (food insecurity).
CareNet has a business plan for a Sustainability Social Enterprise that will both reduce food waste and increase food accessibility. This social enterprise will support the overall work CareNet does, create new volunteer and employment possibilities and divert thousands of kilograms of food from landfill.

Who is The Good Box?
The Good Box is an Australian charity and social enterprise dedicated to helping people experiencing homelessness receive vital resources with dignity.
FOOD RELIEF FACTS
- According to Foodbank’s Hunger Report 2022, over 2 million households in Australia (21%) have experienced severe food insecurity in the last 12 months.
- Households with children are being hit the hardest, with 37% of single-parent households and 32% of two-parent households having experienced severe food insecurity in the last 12 months.
- According to the Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment, 1 in 5 full bags of groceries is wasted across the whole supply chain.
HOMELESSNESS FACTS
- 122,494 people were estimated to be experiencing homelessness on Census night in 2021. This has increased from 116,000 in the 2016 Census.
- Males made up 55.9% of people experiencing homelessness; females made up 44.1%.
- 23.0% of all people experiencing homelessness were aged from 12 to 24 years.
