Rex Gatch Memorial College Fund for Violet

We are heartbroken that Rex Gatch, loving husband of Johanna and adoring father of Violet, suddenly passed away on July 8th, at the all too young age of 54. Rex was a great guy and cherished brother to Eric. We were proud to have him as our brother-in-law and are devastated that we lost him all too soon.

Rex’s passions included reading, gardening, cooking and pool. Known as “The Vest” by his pool mates, he loved the leagues and tournaments he played in and all the friendships he made through pool. His quick wit and sense of humor was enjoyed by his friends, family and co-workers. His Facebook posts were well known for including pictures of the gourmet meals he prepared, and we were lucky to have enjoyed many of them.

Rex loved his profession as an environmental engineer. Many of his colleagues became his close friends and confidantes. Rex truly treasured all his friends. He regularly called them to check in and say hello which would often result in a lengthy conversation. He called so many people during the recent stay at home orders to make sure they were doing okay. He loved the Zoom calls with family and friends across the pond.

Rex locked eyes with his “Princess,” Johanna, in a bar in Hoboken 18 years ago and it was love at first sight. They were married in 2004 were thrilled to welcome Violet to their family in 2009. Rex was an attentive father and had an extremely close relationship with Violet. Some of their many activities together included baking and cooking, taking garden walks and watching marathons of The Office and Marvel movies. Rex loved showing Violet his hometown of London, having her spend time with his brother and his family, and introducing her to his UK friends.

Rex was a life-long learner and voracious reader and Violet’s education was a priority for him. His dream for Violet was that she would be educated to be empowered to do what makes her happy and fulfilled.

Contributions in Rex’s honor and memory will go directly to Violet’s 529 college fund.

Thank you for your outpouring of love and kindness at this time.
