Carlo's Medical Expenses

My name is Carlos Jesus and I am a 29-year-old Engineer born in Venezuela.  A little while ago I secured my student Visa and was given the opportunity to travel to Australia for further study opportunities.

Not long after settling into this beautiful country I suffered an unexpected and debilitating medical setback. In December last year, I realized that I had a little ball growing behind the right ear between the neck and the head. I had several visits to the GP, a scanner confirmed that the mass I had in my neck was located close to the C1 and the C2 vertebrae in the cervical spine. He immediately referred me to the emergency on February 13. After much extensive testing and emotional trauma, I had a definitive diagnosis of Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumour or MPNST. By the time I was able to receive examination it was discovered that my cancerous condition had metastasised to my lungs, ribs and pelvis. The only viable treatment option at the moment is long-term Radiotherapy combined with Chemotherapy. The doctors at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital where I have just commenced said treatment hope that this action will reduce the size of my cancer which will in turn open the gate for life-saving surgery.

Of course this overwhelming situation has occurred whilst I am in a foreign country, isolated from my friends and family. My closest relatives are in the process of finding a way to be with me but this takes time and money and ultimately comes down to the discretion of our mutual governing bodies.

Which brings me to the pinnacle of this tale; time and money are both things I do not have right now. I cannot express in any clearer words how alone and afraid I currently feel.  With my first Radiotherapy session commencing on March 15th at the hospital, I am at a loss for how to cope in any way until my family may be allowed to join me. I do not have Medicare to subsidise my Cancer treatment or equivalent funding assistance. I only rely on a health insurance that covers partially the cancer treatment. Given that is the only option for my future; I am forced to share my story and rely on the kindness and compassion of all of you. If there is any way in which you may be willing to offer support, please donate in the link below. Thank you very much and God Bless you!
