Save the Hoga

Donation protected
An ex-U.S. Navy tugboat that saved hundreds of lives during the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, is now in need of saving.

Designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service, USS Hoga (YT-146) is on her way to becoming a permanent display at the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum after much-needed restoration work. When work is finished, she will be part of an educational experience at AIMM to commemorate the sacrifices and achievements of U.S. servicemen.

Quick Facts

*   In all, Hoga spent 72 continuous hours fighting fires on USS Maryland, USS Tennessee, USS Arizona and others.

*   Hoga, her commanding officer, and his crew received a commendation from Admiral Chester A. Nimitz, Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet.

*   Getting underway within ten minutes after the first bombs fell in Pearl Harbor, Hoga rescued sailors in the water, fought fires and pushed ships out of harm’s way.

*   Hoga is most recognized for pushing the sinking USS Nevada to safety and preventing her from blocking the narrow channel.

*   After the war, Hoga spent over 30 years as a Fireboat in Oakland, California fighting fires and saving lives.

Please help us raise funds to do the same significant restorations to the inside of our Hoga and ongoing exterior maintenance.

Our goal is to have Hoga refurbished to her original state by December 7, 2016 which is the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Hoga will provide an opportunity for all ages to encounter World War II history firsthand.
