For My Mother

Donation protected
Thank you for taking the time to read about my mother. She is in need of three mandatory surgeries that she cannot afford because her insurance deductible is too high, and because she’ll need to take at least 6 weeks off to heal. Without this, there is no way for her to get the help she needs....

My mother is the kind of person who puts everyone before herself. For the past 35 years she has dedicated her life to those around her including her five children, her disabled husband, her terminally ill aunt (who deceased in 2009), and the displaced members of the community who know they can rely on her for help. She gives without taking, works without resting, and doesn’t like to ask for help. She’s the kind of mother who would pick up as many shifts as it took to make sure her kids had everything they wanted on Christmas morning and who still makes Easter baskets every year to give to anyone in need of a little extra love around the holidays, even when she can’t afford to do so. She does all of this not because she expects anything in return, but from the goodness of her heart. Even though her life experience has been that of a harsh reality, she still believes in the magic of the inner-child. And though its rare when she gets to experience that magic herself, she works  extremely hard to make sure that magic is alive in others.

In order to do this my mother goes without. For years she walked around in broken glasses (without telling anyone), never goes to the doctor, never buys herself new clothes unless she has to (or her kids do it for her), never takes vacations, and never does anything to treat herself. Instead, she works three jobs.  For 35 years she’s been the sole manager and keeper of a 24 hour storage facility where she runs the office, takes payments, and cleans the 769 sheds on the property 7 days a week. After she closes the office daily she’ll put on her apron and serve tables at a buffet style restaurant until it closes at 10pm. On Tuesday’s she’ll stay until midnight so that she can do the restaurant’s accounting. And for 22 years (before the bar changed owners), her mornings began at 5am at a bar where she would clean the entire place for $10 before running her kids off to school. Yes, an hour of bar bathroom scrubbing 7 days a week at 5am before taking her kids to school and working her other jobs to make ends meet! That’s my mother. She’s not the type of person to ask for help, instead she’ll work even harder, take on an extra shift and find a way to make it happen for whoever it needs to happen for.

Unfortunately, all this work has taken it’s toll. She is now in need of three mandatory surgeries but cannot afford them or the time needed to heal from them. For the past year, without anyone knowing, her uterus and bladder have been falling out of her body. It is so painful that it is affecting her daily life and ability to work. And now just a month ago, she had an aneurysm in her right eye that led to a hemorrhage and blindness in that eye. She will need a hysterectomy, her bladder prolapse put back into place, and surgery on her eye. She does have insurance but we are currently trying to find her a better option since her current deductible is extremely high and she cannot afford it. It has prevented her from getting the required tests needed before she can even start the surgery process. And yet, her greatest fear is not just affording the surgeries which will cost around $20,000, but the time she will need to take off work to heal that she cannot afford.

She has never asked for help before. In fact, she is still uncomfortable with the idea of this GofundMe. But, without an option to move forward she is putting her faith and her belief in the goodness of people out into the world.  Please help her if you can.

All donations will be sent directly to her account and will go towards her medical bills. Any donations left after her medical bills will go towards her regular bills that need to be paid during the time she is out of work for healing.

Thank you so much for your time and support! It means the world to her and all her family!
