Zan Hailey Memorial Fund

$27,948 of $25,000 goal

We are all in shock and disbelief of the tragic loss of Alexandra (Zan) Delaine Hailey,  one of the most vibrant, passionate and selfless people the world has ever seen, at the young age of 26.

On October 31, 2018, in the late afternoon, the world lost  Alexandra (Zan) Delaine Hailey very suddenly in a tragic car accident while traveling for work in Paducah, Kentucky.

Zan was a poet, an artist, and an intellect. Lighting up every room she entered, her extreme selflessness towards others will always be remembered. In any situation of struggle or despair, Zan would always be there to help. Whether you needed to load a moving truck within hours, needed a ride to work, or were stranded in the middle of the desert, all it took was one call and Zan would be on her way.

Zan was truly a one of a kind human being and she will me missed greatly by her family and extremely supportive friends.

The viewing is planned to take place on Tuesday, November, 6 in Woodbridge with a funeral service  on Wednesday. More details will be posted shortly.

My name is Neil Hailey, Zan’s brother. Zan is not only my sister but my best friend. Never more than a call away, Zan has been there for me my entire life. It’s hard to come to accept something so seemingly surreal  as this, but I believe Zan would want her life to be celebrated with the same sense of exuberance and passion that she shared with the world each and every day.

I am starting the campaign to cover some of the costs associated with the funeral and memorial service for Alexandra. Please do not feel obligated to make a donation, however, any contribution on any level will be greatly appreciated.

In addition to offsetting funeral and memorial service costs, I  would like to celebrate Zan’s life in a slightly less conventional by honoring some of the activities she was so passionate about. Any contributions  not used to cover funeral expenses will go directly towards a fund dedicated to honor Zan and her passions. This fund will help support events such as a memorial concert and other art/writing related events.

Again, any contribution to Zan’s fund will be greatly appreciated.

Alexandra recently referred to Abraham Lincoln’s quote which sums up her fierce passion quite well , “And in the end it's not the years in your life that count; it's the life in your years.”

Let’s try to celebrate the life in Zan’s years as much as possible rather than reflect on the short number of years in her life.

Thank you for the overwhelming out pour of support for Zan. It is truly amazing how many people Zan was able to touch with such impact regardless of how much time was spent together.

Many people have said “Zan had her own brand” Zan had plans and many aspirations, and she was in pursuit with great vigor. She didn’t take a day for granted, and inspired many others to “just go for it.” It can be anything. The only rule is you have to love it. Zan’s passion and perseverance, despite many setbacks, is what told me that, maybe, two kids trying to start a company and invent a new type of patio door wasn’t as crazy as we thought.

As T.S Elliot wrote, “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”
My family and others plan to start a non-profit organization which will allow us to spread the awareness of Zan’s amazing artwork, projects, and personal "brand" of vibrant passion through distributing prints and merchandise, partnering with other organizations and, in turn, using the proceeds to help enable passionate individuals to just “go for it.”

I have included some additional Artwork by Zan for everyone to check out.

The amount of support for Zan over the past 24 hours has been overwhelmingly positive. Every contribution, share, and comment is appreciated greatly.

Many remember Zan as an artist who expressed her passion both visually with paintings and amazing sculptures, and through written poetry. Others remember Zan as a badass who started skateboarding at Vans Skatepark in Woodbridge Virginia in sixth grade (after her six-year old brother) and was never afraid of bruises or burns.

A very close friend to both Zan and I, Matthew Sozio had a great idea to find some way to combine Zan's love for the arts and innovation with her passion for skateboarding.

"VANS For Zan" would aim to just that. Zan has many pieces of amazing art, countless big ideas, and beautiful poetry. Vans For Zan would provide a way to spread some of Zan's creativity with others, as well as establish an ongoing effort to provide funds to other passionate individuals looking to pursue creative endeavors which they are passionate about.

The first goal would be to create a line of shoes, similar to the ones below, which all incorporate her paintings.

For those that didn't know, Zan also worked at Vans shoe store at Potomac Mills in High school and loved the shoes. In her time working there, she collected over 50 pairs.

After such generous contributions thus far, any additional funds will go towards establishing the Vans For Zan Fun to continue spreading her creative work and enabling others to establish the love of theirs.

After the service she will be laid to rest at Columbia Gardens 3411 Arlington blvd, Arlington, Va 22201.
