It’s with a mother’s love and desperation that I am setting up this Go Fund Me account for my daughter Holly and her husband Zach.
The short version. Zach is a Petty Officer 3rd Class in the US Navy and Holly is 18 weeks pregnant. Zach is 25 and Holly will be 25 soon. They were previously stationed in Charleston South Carolina where Zach completed his Navy Nuclear Reactor Operator training and they were then stationed in Norfolk Virginia where he was assigned to the George H.W. Bush. They were so excited and with a lot of planning and preparation purchased their first home. They made the 6 hour one way drive numerous times and viewed dozens of houses before choosing a cute little 3 bed 2 bath house in Virginia Beach. They were so excited! The house had been recently renovated and it was adorable. They did their due diligence and hired a master inspector to check out the house and it came back good. They also purchased the extended home warranty through the lender.
First to clarify. Holly and Zach are very fiscally responsible. They chose to not start their family until Zach had completed his Navy training and Holly graduated from UW. They have one vehicle which Zach has a small payment on and they purchased some furniture and home furnishings when they moved into their new home. Other then that they are debt free.
Back to the story... with great excitement on November 9th they moved from Charleston to their new home in Virginia Beach. Within one day... yes one day, they started having problems. First there was no heat in the master bedroom and master bathroom. That same day they realized that the toilet in the master bath wasn’t flushing and low and behold the sewage was coming back up through the shower drain. The sink in the kitchen also wasn’t draining. Upon pulling the dishwasher out they realized the wall behind the sparkly new dish washer was covered with mold! They called the realtor and was basically told the seller said too bad, it’s their house now. All they wanted was the seller to fix the plumbing and duct work. Then they had numerous plumbers, HVAC, electricians, mold specialists and contractors out to give them bids to fix these items. Everyone who came out said there was no way the seller didn’t know these problems existed. Come to find out the heating duct work was never attached, the sewage literally drains into the back yard and the electrical box is a fire hazard. The seller also took out numerous permits but never had the work inspected or the permits closed.
Now the kids kids are having to hire an attorney to get the house up to living standards. They have one functioning bathroom, no water in the kitchen and no heat in their bedroom and mold in the walls. With winter upon else they need to get the heat and water situations fixed.
Any financial help is very much appreciated as is prayers and good thoughts. Zach and Holly have been having to deal with this all alone, in a place where they have no family to help them.
