WWII Veteran laid to rest

My father passed away December 28, 2015. He was a wonderful man, dedicated to his family, community, and country. He was a Navy pilot in World War II, flying off aircraft carriers in the Pacific Theater; a volunteer fireman for over 25 years, a gardener, a fix-it-upper ( for those of you who know what I mean), and a loving husband to my mom for 56 years, taking care of her at home until she passed nearly 8 years ago.
My father and mother came to live with us in 2001 primarily due to my mother's battle with cancer. After she passed in 2007, my dad continued to live with us. This past month has been full of ups and downs: Dad had a heart attack, was being treated for severe and growing bedsores, and in the last week of his life his health had taken a drastic downward turn. We finally bowed to his condition and had signed him up for home hospice care- which hadn't even fully come into effect due to the holiday season ( they were waiting on further action until after the New Year)-- only to lose him less than a week later.
My father did not have life insurance. I don't know if it was a generational thing, but neither of my parents did. His family burial plot is back in Iowa. The costs of getting him back home far exceeded our family's ability to pay, and we have been blessed that the two funeral homes involved in getting him from Connecticut to Iowa were gracious enough to do so without any cash advance.
It is with great humility that my family and I are asking for help. We know that there are many greater needs than ours, people dealing with even more severe circumstances than our own, yet we still ask. Any amount that you can spare will help with covering the costs that we owe to these very generous, family-owned funeral homes for helping us get this loving family man and World War II veteran home to his final resting place.
