The Southern Theater opened its doors to the Minneapolis community in 1910 and after over 100 years, some of our equipment is starting to show it’s age! We’ve upgraded a few times since 1910 but the last upgrade was in the 80’s. (That’s when Madonna was still a virgin and leg warmers were a must-have accessory.) Needless to say, not everything works as well as it used to.

We need your help! Artists put countless hours into their work to bring outstanding performances to life, and our designers, stage managers, and technicians are no exception.

                                                         What a difference a few improvements can make.

Designers and technicians are often creativity stifled due to our antiquated systems. Lighting and effect options are limited due to restricted accessibility which makes it difficult to hang and focus instruments. The configuration of our outdated cable system hinders design options, and the normal wear and tear on our equipment keep designers and technicians wondering if things will even work. Basic improvements like replacing aging equipment, and better storage & maintenance will help these talented designers and technicians achieve their creative vision.

What we get

·       $750.00 will allow us to improve storage and maintenance for our lighting instruments

·       $2000.00 will get us a scaffolding system that allows access to an unreachable grid location for improved design features on our unique stage

·       $2000.00 will allow us to upgrade our cable system for more lighting design options and flexibility

·       $5000.00 will help us fund a newer, slightly used genie

·       $1800.00 will fund a new soundboard with more sound mixing options and better operator use

·       Additional funds raised will help us make improvements to our control booth, from comfortable stools with padding for the techs who spend hours in the booth, to an upgrade lighting board and Q-lab control system.

Donation level packages:

$1-$99: Name in the program and on Go Fund Me Page program and ONE drink ticket

$100-$499 ONE ARTshare membership (for the duration of 2018) plus guest passes to FIVE shows + drink tickets

$500-$999: TWO ARTshare memberships (for the duration of 2018), guest passes, 5 drink tickets, honored in program and online

$1,000-$2,499: Dinner before the show at Town Hall or Republic

$2,500-$4,999: VIP show experience: Pre-show dinner for 2 and post-show drinks (your choice of Republic or Town Hall), mentioned in curtain call of show you attend. (Dinner/ drink value $100)

$5,000-$9,999: Backstage tour and the opportunity to attend the tech of a show of your choice, where you can be honored at the show/Sit in the booth during a show and shadow the SM - be the honorary TD! Drinks with Southern artists after the show

Full $10,000: Pre-show dinner for 2, TWO ARTshare memberships, and we will create a lobby installation with a lighting in the lobby with a plaque honoring your gift. (Dinner/ drink value $100)
