From January 12-16, 2016, Innsbruck, Austria and the region of the Tyrol will host the 7th International Children’s Winter Games.  More than 1000 young athletes from all over the world are expected in Innsbruck to celebrate and share unforgettable moments. Exactly 40 years after the Olympic Winter Games in 1976, Innsbruck will throw the spotlight on the original venues and also completely newly built sport venues.
A small group of young athletes from Cleveland, Ohio, ranging in ages from 12 to 14, have been invited to travel to Innsbruck for these Games. The winter version of the International Children’s Games are held every two years in different cities and countries to provide the opportunity for young skiers, figure skaters, and speed skaters to compete with their world-wide peers for gold, silver, and bronze medals and create lifelong memories, friends, and experiences.

Four Lakewood Club speed skaters are working hard towards being part of this amazing opportunity to participate in the International Children’s Games 2016 and we need your help!

The first skater is Caitlynn Keyser, age 13 from Cleveland, Ohio.  Caitlynn is busy with a number of sports throughout the year, including basketball, volleyball, and track.  Caitlyn is looking forward to meeting all the athletes from other countries at the Games.  Caitlynn raced in the 2015 Speed Skating Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin.

Next is Una Willhoite, age 13 from Bay Village, Ohio.  Una  is in 8th grade at Bay Middle School, and has been speed skating for 4 years, giving up figure skating to concentrate on speed skating. Una is looking forward to experiencing what it means to be part of an “Olympic” type event like the International Children’s Games.  Una also raced in the 2015 Nationals and is looking forward to competing with fellow skating from cities around the world.

Next is Cade Grant, age 14, is from Avon, Ohio.  Cade is a freshman at Avon High School and has been speed skating since he was in the third grade for Lakewood Speed Skating Club. Cade is looking forward to competing in Austria and meeting other athletes from around the world.

And, the forth skater is Austin Herpst, age 14, from Chagrin Falls, Ohio.  Austin has been speed skating for two yrs.Austins other sports include OutdoorTrack and Cross country.  He is currently working on his Eagle scout award.  Austin is looking forward to meeting new people, having new experiences, and skating internationally.

This event will be very challenging for these young athletes, coaches, and families mentally, physically, and financially.  Your generous contribution will help relieve some of the financial burden for the team.  Please help be part of the team!  Contribute to the our 2016 International Children’s Games team.  Thank you for your support!
