I’m asking everyone that comes across this site from the bottom of my heart to read this story, help in any way you can, and share this post and campaign with everyone you can. #lucasSmash

Imagine you get back from a nice family vacation, go online to create an event for your child’s 3rd birthday that’s coming up in two weeks. You think, “this is going to be his best birthday yet! 3’s a great age, he’s into superheroes, so a superhero theme would be perfect.” You look through all your little guy’s pictures to find the perfect one for the event and you marvel at how big he’s grown over the last 3 years.

While he’s sitting on your lap, you notice the pesky mosquito bite on his cheek from vacation still hasn’t gone away and he says it’s bothering him. He feels a little warm to the touch and as a precaution, you check his temperature and see he’s running a fever. “Better take him in.”

The doctors tell you they believe it could be mumps and they’ll need to keep him overnight to evaluate. Throughout the night, your little guy cries uncontrollably, nothing you do is helping. You cradle him helpless, afraid, praying, “please don’t let it be mumps.” A million things go through your mind during this sleepless night and after an eternity, the sun finally rises. The doctors come back in and tell you that the tests came back negative. “It’s not mumps, it’s an infected parotid gland. Some antibiotics and your little superhero will be up and running again in no time!”

A sense of relief washes over you. One helpless scary night, but you reassure yourself with the doctor’s words, “Some antibiotics and he will be fine.”

A few days go past, but the infection isn’t responding to antibiotics. You take him back in to get another antibiotic shot, but it's not helping, the mosquito bite is growing larger and larger on his cheek. The doctors aren’t sure what it is. “Better run some tests.”

After a few more exhaustive days in the hospital, the tests come back. The doctors sit you down and words are coming out of their mouths, but suddenly everything feels far away, their lips are moving, but after the “C” word comes out, your mind is no longer comprehending anything.

A biopsy is performed, followed by surgery, and the unimaginable diagnosis comes to light: Stage IV Neuroblastoma Cancer.

You’re handed what looks like a 50lb binder of information and suddenly your child’s life is being talked about like the fine print on a lottery ticket.

“We start Chemo tomorrow.”

This is the reality that two of my best friends are going through. Lucas is their world. They brought him in with a mosquito bite and fever and received a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis. They have health insurance, but it only covers so much. The last thing they should be thinking about right now is money or how on earth they are going to cover expenses for his treatment.

If there was ever a cause to support and believe in, this is it. Lucas’s 3rd birthday is next week and him and his family need financial support and prayers. I’m asking for both.

Please help in anyway you can.
