Hi! I'm Ysa and I am an 8th grader living in Guatemala. At my school, we are working on Passion Projects. My passion is animals and I have chosen to dedicate my passion to helping the stray animals of Guatemala.
I absolutely love animals, and when I see animals hurting, it hurts me too. Stray animals are a huge problem in Guatemala. I am working with Animal AWARE, a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue/shelter in Sumpango, Guatemala (www.animalaware.org). They currently house 340 dogs and 90 cats. Many come to Animal AWARE having been hit by cars or abused with machetes. These beautiful animals want nothing more than to be loved and to give love.
I have been raising awareness and funds for Animal AWARE by making and selling dog toys, dog treats, and handmade watercolor cards, with 100% of the profit going to the rescue. Now, I need YOUR help. Animal AWARE receieves no government funding, so private donors keep them running. It costs $500 a week just to feed these animals!
I started this GoFundMe page because I want to raise money to build additional shelter spaces and convert the flooring of several dog shelter areas from dirt to concrete. Please help me give these loving animals a better home than the streets and a safe place to harbor while they wait for their forever homes.
