The Shymanski Family

An update: Angela is slowly regaining strength, and is now able to hold Peter but still
cannot lift or carry him. She is starting to use a walker around the house but is awaiting yet another surgical consult for her back. Peter seems to be doing well at this time, making milestones and growing like a weed! Lexi is happy to be home with her dog and three little ducks and Travis has started back to work. Thank you all SO much for your kind messages, prayers, generous donations, gifts of meals, acts of service such as help with housekeeping and childcare. We have been astounded at the outpouring of love towards our little family.
The family appeared on Dr Oz Show on Monday, September 14th. You can watch a clip here: http://www.doctoroz.com/episode/how-channel-super-human-you?video_id=4478508873001
To answer some commonly asked questions: yes, we are Jehovah's Witnesses and part of our worship is a weekly " family worship evening". What we talked about on Dr Oz was what we had done for our Emergency Preparedness Family Worship (exactly a year to the date ) previous to the car accident.
That night, we had also written emergency contact info (with sharpie!) on Lexi's car seat, and gone through our disaster preparedness kit with Lexi ( and moved it out of the basement to right by the front door in the front closet so that we could actually access it). And finally we had made her walk barefoot to our closest neighbour's house (0.5km away). There is no doubt that this contributed to our survival after the car accident!
We have never told Lexi to "not talk to strangers"; rather, we have always impressed upon Lexi the difference between Good Strangers and Bad Strangers. This is one reason she was "brave" enough to flag down help from the Good Strangers.

Another common question from other parents is what kind of car seat was Lexi in?
She was in the Diono Radian RXT. Every time I moved this HEAVY car seat, I would complain, but that heavy, steel frame saved her life! ( and mine and Peter's as a result). When the frame of your vehicle is bent from an impact car accident, a plastic car seat will not survive. I'm sure of it! This seat is worth every penny!
The local newspaper wrote an article recently!
I saw this story on facebook and was amazed... Then I saw the last picture of your family in the kingdom hall and I was surprised to see that it was fellow Jehovah's witnesses. Glad to hear things are improving now for your family and know your brothers and sisters from around the world send their prayers! :)

It started local and is spreading like wild fire across the country. Maybe we could hold a benefit to help.??? It would make me glad to help my brother and sister and those beautiful babies.. Please contact me on facebook.. 'Sincerely your sister from Wisconsin, Misty Ps I am praying for your family.. Love you spiritual siblings.
Hello Angela and the Shymanski family. I hope you are all doing well, and will pray for a speedy recovery. I hope your story travels to parents everywhere and reinforces that it is never too early to teach your children how to get help when it's needed. I am grateful that angels were watching over you that day, and that your little girl was able to get out and get help for her mom and brother. I am not in a position to help financially, although I wish I could. However I will pray for your family, and I will share your story and hope that it reaches others who may be able to help. I know how devastating medical bills can be. I just couldn't read about e what happened and not pass along some words of encouragement. Take things one day at a time, and you will get through it all. I truly believe that. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Know that your story has touched me and I believe you are very blessed. Take care.
Warm Christian love from Denmark Western Australia. Stories like these always upset me, however upon seeing that you are also Jehovah's children brought tears to my eyes. May Jehovah continue to bless you and your family.
I am recovering from a brainstem stroke at 56. It is amazing how your whole life can change in an instant. I like Corinthians 10:13 where we are told that all trials are common to man and Jehovah WILL give you a way out! I am continually amazed at God's course for me- It never seems to be what I thought it would be- usually it is better! I know you can do it! I have found to keep asking my Dr's all of the questions I can think of and keep asking for what I don't know that I should ask. Lately the society has emphasized that when you pray BE SPECIFIC about what you need and want. Dear Jehovah I pray that this family is directed to the best Dr's to help with all of their concerns. I pray that the care they receive is beneficial for each and every one of them. I pray that they all find love joy and laughter again. I pray that their physical, mental, and emotional needs be addressed. I thank you that their trials have brought glory to your name on a large scale. I thank you for all of the love that has been showered on them may it continue the rest of their lives. In Jesus Chris's name Amen.
I just told my daughter we would be preparing an emergency kit for family worship this week. Then, i just so happend to stumble across your family's story! Thank you so much family! May Jehovah continue to bless your fine efforts in faith!
Wishing you well, that was one nasty accident.
