Urgent Treatment Fundraising

Donation protected
This campaign has been organized by friends of Brian Thom and Family.

Brian Thom is recognized by family and friends as a person who is very loyal and very committed to helping others. Brian is known as a happy giving individual and a go-to-guy both at work and amongst his friends.

In mid- April of 2015 Brian was diagnosed with stage four cancer (bone, lung, liver). He endured 2 months of Chemotherapy that unfortunately was unsuccessful-Brian's cancer continued to advance.

Brian is continuing his fight with a new, very hopeful treatment called Immunotherapy.

This new treatment has brought new hope.  However this hope has come with enormous costs.

The purpose of this fundraising is to raise $29,000 to start and maintain Immunotherapy treatments for an initial period of 3-4 months. The treatment has had good success in the United Kingdom and the United States. As recent as June 2015, the treatment is being offered in the Province of BC and Brian is the first patient at his clinic to receive the treatment!

Many people have made inquiries as to how they can help Brian with his fight to recover. For those of us who know Brian, it's not a surprise that he has been reluctant to make an appeal to his community of friends and family. But now, with the new hope and the additional costs, the time has come to engage with friends and family in this appeal.

As a community we are blessed to have an opportunity to help Brian and his family with this journey. We are grateful so many people have reached out with their thoughts and prayers, and we now extend the invitation to please support Brian with the costs of his new treatment.

More About Brian

Brian is a loving husband and a model father of four children who has dedicated his life and career to helping others. Brian is a long-time staff member at BCIT and has recently been honored through a new award...

"Last Friday, during the School of Computing and Academic Studies and School of Health Sciences convocation ceremony, a new award was issued in honour of one of BCIT's most valued staff members. The inaugural Brian Thom Advancing Teaching Excellence Award recognizes an individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution to advancing learning and teaching at BCIT through educational innovation, and has been a champion for excellence in teaching beyond their own classroom.

It is no wonder that the institute selected long-time BCIT staff member, Brian Thom, to name the award after. In his 25 years in the Learning and Teaching Centre, Brian has made contributions that will have an impact for years to come.

In 2014, Brian received BCIT's Employee Excellence Award as the "Unsung Hero" and that epitomizes Brian's career as a caring, thoughtful educator who helps countless faculty and instructors improve how they teach at BCIT."

Please help in Brian's recovery efforts by donating today.

Spread the word and please share this post!

Together we can help, and we will make a difference to someone who has made a difference in so many of our lives.
