My Name is Vernon Niikpakpa "Vito" Buckle. I am an
Entertainer , College Graduate , Philantropist , Role Model , Mentor, Father and Basketball Coach.
After years of basketball playing and coaching, I woke up 7 weeks ago and decided to start a youth basketball exposure program for 9th through 12th graders, called Team Vito- Montgomery County Heat. I've contributed a lot of my personal funds into getting the program started and after 7 weeks we are up and running. MoCoHEAT is a non-profit organization. I currently have 15 kids on my varsity team and I am in the process of holding tryouts for my junior varsity team. It takes about $6,000 to run the program each year and the money goes towards traveling, tournaments, uniforms and gym time. I am trying to raise at least half of the funds through donation and support from friends, family and the community. This is not going to be a one year program. I plan for this to be a life time program and I plan to help kids get exposed to college coaches around the world and in the process decrease or delete the financial burden of the parents. We push and promote dedication, discipline, determination, hard work and character. Our goal is to provide more than basketball. We want to aid these kids in life itself. Our first tournament is scheduled on March 26th at Washington College. This means so much to me because I was once a troubled youth and basketball saved my life and opened so many doors for me in my journey. Now I am trying to give back, not only to the game of basketball, but to the youth and the whole community.
