Feed 1000 Initiative

Donation protected

Giving is not just about making a DONATION.
It's about making a DIFFERENCE!

This June, according to Quartz Africa, Nigeria became the poverty capital of the world! In September, the annual report of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, titled the Goalkeepers report revealed that Nigeria will have the world’s poorest people by 2050. We've decided to do something about that, help out and make a difference.

The Nigerian Youths In Diaspora (NYID) will kick off its inaugural charity event, “Feed The Youth Initiative” this Christmas, and we need your help!

The United Nations (UN), for statistical consistency across regions, defines ‘youth’, as those persons between the ages of 15 and 24 years, without prejudice to other definitions by Member States. As a youth-driven NPO, our target recipients will be youths between the age of 15 and 24.

THE PLAN
Provide basic grocery boxes to 1000 less privileged Nigerian youths over the holidays at Makoko, Lagos state in South Western Nigeria!

Each box will contain a bag of rice, beans, garri(cassava), milk, hot chocolate (milo), sugar, salt, oil, tomato paste and noodles (indomie)

Cost of each box: $50CAD, $38USD, £30, €33, ₦14,000
100% of your donation will go directly to our targeted recipients!

We will focus our efforts in Lagos State, in a slum called Makoko. Please take some time to learn how locals live in this community, here

ABOUT THE INITIATIVE
It is common practice for Nigerian Youths In Diaspora (NYID) to return home for Christmas and New Year celebration. In many cases, the goal is to have a relaxing, fun time with friends and family. The homecoming has the tendency to be “vacation like”, with NYIDs forgetting that people just like them, who live in Nigeria do not have access to the same luxury and opportunities. A clear example is the wage disparity, where a minimum wage job's daily earning in a Western country is equivalent to a person’s monthly salary in Nigeria and sometimes even more!

In an effort to bridge the gap and give back to the Nigerian youths, this initiative was born. The goal is to open the conversation about the privilege of living abroad and showing that NYID care for their Nigerian brothers and sisters. The hope is that this initiative and all future endeavours will become a staple, with annual events, impacting more lives as time goes on.
