Young Dog Fighting to Survive

Patty is a 3 year old lab mix who came to us in a transport from a shelter in the South. When she arrived one of our veterinarians noticed that she had a very severe heart murmur and Second Chance sent her to a cardiologist for additional testing with a cardiac ultrasound. Patty was diagnosed with a very serious condition called a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). This is a congenital defect which means that Patty was born with this heart problem. Patty’s heart cannot pump blood normally the way it was meant to and after living with this condition for 3 years this sweet little girl is now starting to show signs of heart failure. The good news is that there is surgery available to fix this condition and with surgery she may live a normal life.

We've already scheduled her surgery with the cardiology specialists at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston for August but unfortunately Patty’s health has taken a sudden turn and her foster family brought her to us today having serious breathing problems as a result of her heart disease. This afternoon Patty was was rushed to Angell Animal Medical Center for emergency care by a cardiology specialist in order to stabilize her condition. She is stable now and under constant care but she needs lots of help. 

Today we need to ask you to help us give Patty a second chance at life. The costs of her emergency care will be high and when she is stable we hope they can get her into surgery to repair her damaged heart.  Her care is estimated at $8,000.  We have already received $3,825 toward her care.  Please donate to her medical care, we need your help today to do everything we can for Patty.
