In 2014 the students of Pacific Elementary installed an orchard to accompany their school garden. The students have cared for this 14 tree orchard over the last year by trimming, mulching, watering and loving the trees. Many of the students have special trees that they visit and call their own since they helped to install them.
On November 15th the orchard was completely destroyed by vandals. The branches of trees were ripped off, some trees were pulled from the ground and then dragged to the other side of the campus. The students of Pacific Elementary live in a very urban environment, and the oasis they have created for healthy food and habitat on their campus has become very important for them.
As you can imagine, they are very sad and angry but also determined to restart. The have started to use the slogan #YouCantStopUsFromGrowing as a response to this terrible act.
The students, school community and neighbors are going to replant the orchard in January and hold a community celebration event to mark this work and the garden program.
100% of the proceeds from this GoFundMe campaign will go towards the student's garden via Soil Born Farms. Please join us in supporting the rebuild of this garden. Let’s turn this act of Vandalism into a Victory.
