York Fire Fighters Support Fund

On Thursday, March 22nd, 2018, a massive blaze broke out at the old Weaver Organ and Piano building in downtown York Pennsylvania. After extinguishing the bulk of the inferno, York fire fighters returned the next day to put out remaining pockets of fire. While battling hot spots that had the potential to spread to neighboring buildings, a portion of the building collapsed, claiming the lives of two York fire fighters and seriously injuring two more.
The devastating loss of fire fighters Ivan Flanscha and Zachary Anthony – along with injuries to Assistant Chief Greg Altland and Fire Fighter Erik Swanson, members of York, PA Local 627 and the City of York Fire Department is being mourned throughout their community and across the IAFF.
Flanscha and Anthony were the 12th and 13th members of the York Fire Department to be killed in the line of duty. The first since 1971. Their loss is a terrible reminder of the dangers fire fighters face every time the alarm sounds and they are called upon to help their community.
Altland, an assistant Chief, and Swanson, a fire fighter, were also operating inside the building when they became trapped. They remain hospitalized in serious condition as a result of their injuries.
The York Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 627 and the City of York Fire Department are accepting donations for all of the families during this very difficult time.

For those who are gracious to give a donation the funds raised with go directly to the members and/or the families to help pay for costs of the memorial services and additional expenses related to the events on March 22. The York Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 627 has formed a committee of various member both within the fire department and the community to help determine how best to distribute these generous donations.
