Calling NYC Yogis! Yoga doesn't just happen on the mat.  Come nourish your spirit and align action with values by combining your physical practice with karma yoga, or the yoga of action, at the following donations based classes (FREE class, donations encouraged):

What are the donations for?

On March 13, Cyclone Idai devastated Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, three of the world's already poorest countries. It was said to be one of the worst natural disasters to hit the entire Southern Hemisphere in decades. Idai affected more than a million lives, killing ~1,000 people and displacing hundreds of thousands. People have lost what little they had and are homeless, without basic necessities including food and clean water, as all farms and water sources in the area have been wiped out. One of Mozambique's largest cities and all of the surrounding villages are completely submerged under the world's "first inland ocean ."

Although water is slowly draining, the struggle to live continues. Journalist Ruth Castel-Branco writes , "Clean water is scarce, and the incidence of typhoid, malaria, cholera and diarrhea is on the rise. Without homes, survivors must sleep in the open, unprotected from the elements, and from (sexual) violence. In the accommodation centers, they receive a single, daily meal of maize or rice, with beans, but outside, the price of food has skyrocketed. In Beira, a chicken meal is said to cost $25—more than the average per capita monthly expenditure."

Join our efforts to help those affected.  A variety of amazing organizations are doing incredible relief work on the ground, but need funding. A dollar goes a long way over there ($10 can provide 20+ nutritious meals) so please contribute. All donations will be split between the United Nations Crisis Relief Efforts and Gorongosa National Park and the Gregory C. Carr Foundation (located in the area most affected).

**Because of the way gofundmeworks works, donations will first be withdrawn from the gofundme platform and then deposited into my personal account. From there, I will donate all of the money given directly to the organizations mentioned above via their online donation platforms. I am happy to send receipts!**

About Me and why this is near and dear to my heart:

I'm Paige Sferrazza, a recently returned Peace Corps Volunteer. I called a rural village in Mozambique home for 27 months and grew to love it with everything I have. Mozambicans became my friends and family as they loved me, cared for me, fed me, and welcomed me into their homes. Across the board, Mozambicans tend to be the most generous and loving people. Fostering a sense of 'community' where everyone takes care of everyone and the phrase, "it takes a village," rings true is core to their culture.

Watching this tragedy unfold is breaking my heart. I'm so grateful for every single donation and show of support as Moz, Zimbabwe, and Malawi take steps forward toward recovery.
