Kate Karpel
on behalf of Margaret Karpel
 APALACHIN, NY
Margie (age 34, right in picture) was diagnosed with triple negative stage 4 breast cancer on New Years of 2016.  Three weeks later her sister, Katie (age 30, middle in picture), was diagnosed with breast cancer (stage 2 triple negative).  Both sisters have to go through chemothereapy, radiation and a double masectomy.  Margie is in the most serious condition of the three sisters.  Alice (age 31, left pictured) has two lumps on her breasts and is facing a diagnosis of this aggressive cancer as well.

The family is devistated and needs your help.  Margie's insurance has covered most of her bills but she needs help with a high deductable and copays.

Katie has gotten a port for her Chemotherapy and her insurance is not covering it or any surgeries including the mascectomy and reconstructive surgery.

Alice has been referred to a breast specialist and so far she is covered.  We will update you on her diagnosis as soon as we can.

The help and support of the community has meant so much.  We could not be happier with all of the supportive spirits praying for us and giving us positive thoughts through this devistating time.  Any donation large or small would be greatly apprectiated.  All donations will go to  medical bills only.  This journey will be a long one for the Karpel family.  Thank you so much for your support.  Keep praying for the Karpel sisters!

If there is any money left over it will be donated to Traci's Hope.  Traci's Hope is a local Breast Cancer not for profit support organization.  Thank you.

Kate had her last reconstructive surgery on May 3..... It went just as planned. The Dr was very pleased with the outcome and she was home by 6:00. We are all so happy this is behind us. We are all trying to get back to a "normal" life, what ever that means.... After a year and a half like we have had you start to re-evaluate what is important in life. I think we are all a little more patient, forgiving and thankful for each other. It's hard to go on without Margie but we have no choice...so on we go. We are enjoying our new addition to our family, Margaret Grace (Maggie). She is a very sweet, happy baby. Again we can't thank you enough for all the support you have shown our family over the last year and half, we feel blessed having all of you as our friends. I'm hoping this is our last post....I'm hoping our lives from this moment on are completely boring! I hope we watch Maggie grow up healthy and happy....maybe she will play softball or play the piano or love arts and crafts...whatever it is we are ready to watch and cheer her on!!

Another update from Mom:
Well life marches on. Kate got sick of the Peter Pan haircut look so she had extensions put on her hair. It looks so good! Her roommate from collage has a cousin who did it for her. Thank you Christaline!! Kate's treatment is coming to an end. But not really because it will be a life long battle because of the BRCA 1 genetic mutation. She has to be vigilant for the rest of her life. However, her chemo and reconstructive surgery will be over by the end of May! We cannot wait! We are doing all we can to get her to the five year mark cancer free. So if you pray, keep praying for her!
But our big news is the new addition to our family, Margaret Grace (Maggie). She was born March 10 at 12:08pm weighing 8 lbs and 19 in tall. She is probably the most beautiful girl that was ever born....do I so sound like a grandmother ? Maggie, Alice and Jeremy are doing so well! They are still on cloud 9, and as a friend of ours said, "probably down from cloud 20!" We are so proud of them! It was a very rough pregnancy but their patience and perseverance paid off with a beautiful, little baby girl!! We feel Margie with us all the time and we know Maggie was with her before she came to us. So she knows her Aunt Margie very well (her namesake)! It's comforting knowing that.
Kate's new hair and Margaret Grace!

Another update from mom.
Kate is doing better and better all the time. I see the old Kate smile more and more every day and it's a beautiful smile, I am so proud of her. She is feeling very well, doing yoga and doing some massages and her essential oil classes. She looks so good. Her hair is coming back so fast. She will finish all her chemo in April and is scheduled for her last reconstructive surgery the first week of May and is looking forward to getting back to a normal life. We are missing Margie every day and we will never forget her but we are thankful she is not in anymore pain. We feel her all around us everyday. Middle sister Alice is scheduled to have a c-section on March 10 for our first grandchild Margaret Grace (Maggie). It was a very rough pregnancy but we think we have a guardian angel looking out for Maggie because she is in the clear now!! I can't express enough how all of your support for my family this year has meant to us. It made this awful burden so much easier to get through. Thank you all so much, we love you all!!

I am contributing but I question the path you are taking. Main Street medicine is failing us and maybe making you worse. I know triple negative is a tough diagnosis as I have had it but I chose a different path of natural treatments and am fine 4 years later. Great sites on line. It is hardier to figure it out on your own rather than listen to main stream medicine and I suppose scarier. But I never looked back. Be sure you have looked at all options and remember time is usually not of the essence. I have no medical training just two bouts with breast cancer the first in 2000. and a good research mind as I am an attorney and a Hillary supporter. I'm contributing 500. And hope you buy some probiotics with it BioK the best. Best wishes.

I recently got back the cards I snt you girls in care of your mother. Kate, could you please IM me with the address, I would appreciate it. I am sorry that Margie's second chemo treatments have been extended, but I pray that is a good sign. I continue prayers for all of you and ask for strength and courage for all of you. Try to remember the experiences and the joy and laughter you are finding together even now for there will be others who will need to know what you did to get through this. You all will be teachers to them. You will be their lessons. Love to all of you and God bless.

Prayers for Margie. Almighty Father, It's a struggle and Margie is strong but our prayers are lifting Margie up and asking our you to show her Mercy and Love as she has this blood transfusion. Let it bring her strength and the determination to fight this horrible disease. May you be with her and show her that she can do this. Please show those who can, the way the blood transfusions help and that they need to give some of that precious blood, as you shed yours for us, that you allow us to regenerate so we might help others. In your name we pray, Lord. Amen.

I will get on my soapbox here.... There is a critical need for blood in our area for Margie and others like her. Few people take time to donate a unit of blood. For a little over an hour of your time, you can donate a bit of yourself to help others. The need for blood and platelets is very real for these women. My sister had metastatic breast cancer several years ago, and she needed transfusions on multiple occasions. I know it sounds very hokey, but please take the time to give so that others may live. There is a blood mobile visit to Wilson Hospital on Friday, Feb 19. You can find out where and when else you can donate by calling the Red Cross or looking on-line.

Margie, I have been amazed at your courage and grace in treating this breast cancer that has caused you so much pain and interrupted your active, young life. I had a Great Aunt that used to say, "isn't it just like God to put our greatest days ahead of us." Cancer will not defeat you. Cancer cannot affect your indomitable spirit or your faith that our life in this world is but a brief blink of the eye and we will all be reunited at Jesus feet. I pray that the doctors will restore your comfort so that you can again have some quality of life. You are loved, cherished and admired. May your journey be surrounded in love and may God hold you and your family in the palm of His hand .

I was asked what I feared about death and I immediately said the pain, the process unknown to me, and the loved ones I would leave behind. Then I was asked if I believe in God and that Christ died for our sins so we might join him in heaven one day. I said I did. I a still afraid of what is to come sometimes because I know that we all live this life for the purpose of dying. I will say that this makes me feel better though. Pray to God about what bothers you. 11. Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. So I will continue to pray for you and dedicate my rosary prayers for you. And ask you to seek the Lord and ask him to take away your fears. I am so, so sorry that your cure is not curing you. I wish you peace and love, love, love. Amen.
