My name is Amy.  I am here to tell you about my loving husband Eric. In the spring of 2010 we welcomed the  arrival of our 2nd child; at the same time Eric was diagnosed with Medullary Carcinoma of the thyroid. In June he had surgery to remove his thyroid, parathyroids, and lymph nodes. It was a long and dangerous surgery, but Eric came through very well. After that, our lives went back to normal for almost 3 years. All the while the doctors were keeping an ever watchful eye on his condition. In Jan. of 2014 on of Eric's routine scans revealed a tumor on his rt. lung, and again surgery to remove. This time the lower lobe of his rt. lung along with the tumor and lymph nodes. Eric also healed well after the surgery and this time we did not get 3 years of peace, but 3 months. In April of 2014, he became dizzy and had headaches. Another ct scan showed a tumor in his brain that was causing all the problems. In June, Eric had radiation to shrink the tumor's size. The radiation did stop the growth of the tumor, but not the balance and headache issues. So in  Oct. of 2014, another surgery to remove the brain tumor. This surgery recovery was meet with Eric's usual strength and resiliancy. His recovery began well, but 3 days after coming home from the hospital, I rushed him back after he had a pulmonary embolism from blood clots that formed during and post surgery.  By far the most terrifing day of my life.  He spent 8 days in Intensive Care at Barnes Jewish Hospital. We had hoped that this was it for awhile, but not to be. In Jan. of 2015 we had more bad news. Another routine scan showed a tumor on his pituatary gland. Along with this tumor, the scan found 2 more spots on his left lung and lymph nodes. So now we are faced with multiple spots and, for me, a difficult road. Eric has begun 3 weeks of radiation to treat the pituatary tumor, but we do not yet know what the treatment will be for the rest. Sorry this such a long story, but this is what our family has faced for the last 5 years. The hardest thing for me is to explain to our children, 9 year old Danielle and 5 year old Patrick, that their dad is sick and has to spend time in the hospital again away from them. During all the times in the hospital, Eric has not been able to work very much. hence, we are struggling financially as well. Our family has helped so much, and they continue to be there for us. Without close family, we couldn't have made it through these last few years.
Anything that you can help us with is greatfully appreciated. Thank you so much for reading Eric's story. love and God Bless,
