Ying's Cancer Fund

As we approached the New Year, we were shocked to discover that our father, Ying, had been tested positive for cancerous cells found in his neck/face area. It first started out in his neck area where a lymph node was visibly growing on the right side and eventually grew to the size of a baseball. As he got more testing done, the doctors were able to confirm that the cancerous cells originated from his sinuses. He has since been diagnosed with Stage 3 Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, also known as Nasal Cancer. This type of cancer is linked with the Epstein - Barr virus (EBV), which is a common virus (such as Mono). This is a rare type of cancer and is more commonly found in Southeast Asian and African descents.

Ying has been scheduled to two months of chemotherapy and radiation. He goes to radiation 5x a week and chemotherapy once a week. When he first started treatment, he had to get a feeding tube placed directly to his stomach as the doctors suspected that he would probably use that as a food source sometime during his treatment process. The goal of the feeding tube is to shoot in protein shakes (such as Ensure and Boost) when he is no longer able to take in food orally, to still be able to provide him the necessary proteins and calorie intake that keep him ‘healthy’.

As we are nearing the end of treatment, chemo and radiation has really taken a toll on him; mentally and physically. The feeding tube is now his primary source of food intake.
