Dear Yazda supporters,
We thank you for your generous donations and would like to update you on another great accomplishment!

We are excited to inform you that Yazda has received approval for monthly allowances for the Yazidi women former captives of ISIS.

After eight months of paperwork processing and advocacy, Yazda and Iraqi authorities have successfully completed the final stage in securing monthly allowances of 150,000 ID (125 USD) to the Yazidi women and girls who managed to escape ISIS captivity. An estimated 229 applications have been approved by the Iraqi Central Government and are currently being processed at Yazda center in Dohuk for payment card issuance. Government authorities and Yazda staff will issue the 229 payment cards to the women victims throughout the coming weeks.
This social support program will enable the women and girls to receive a lifelong monthly payment. This small amount will not fulfill all the needs of the women, however, essential, as most of the women have absolutely no income and many have lost those who once supported the family.

The initiative of securing monthly payments for the Yazidi women and girls was initiated by Yazda in January of 2015 in cooperation with High Commission for Human Rights in Baghdad and Women Affairs Ministry. Our role included advocacy in Baghdad to receive government approval for the program, interviewing women, and filling out applications, verifying applicant’s status, and process coordination.

Yazda is currently working with the authorities in Baghdad and Kurdistan Region of Dohuk to complete applications for the remaining victims.

Yazda global leadership is delighted to announce this success for our young organization. Commitment of our staff in Iraq who largely supported this cause on an unpaid volunteer basis has made this achievement possible.

Yazda is grateful to the support and commitment of High Commission of Human Rights, and in particular, Dr. Bushra al- Obaidi, Dr. Daham Al-Azzawi. We are also grateful to Dr. Suriaya Abid Alkhathem, the director of Womencare Social Protection in Baghdad for her continued efforts and contributions.

Yazda Supporters,

We are pleased to inform you that your donations were used to purchase and deliver 7 tones of food to about 300 families on top of Sinjar Mountain. This aid included flour, baby formula, dates and other Essential food items.

These families were in utter need for food because of the difficulties for humanitarian organizations to reach the mountain, a risky area surrounded from three directions by ISIL militants.
In addition to humanitarian aid, a medical team from Yazda remained for three days and provided free medical examination and medicine to more than 500 people.

Thank you for your support for Yazda, we promise that 95 to100 percent of all donations made to Yazda goes directly to people in need.

Please visit out website for more details and photos for the trip.
