Damian's Medical Fund

Damian is a sweet little boy who was born on Sept 22nd, 2014. He experienced a blood clot very early in gesatation, which caused an in-utero bilateral stroke. He started having seziures the day before he turned 5 months old and was put on his very first anti-seizure med. Damian suffered a lot of damage due to the stroke and is on his road to recovery.

His diagnosises include: intractable epilepsy, Factor V Leiden (blood clotting disorder), cerebral dysgenesis, symptomatic infantile spasms, microcephaly, porencephaly and global delay (meaning he is delayed in all aspects). The stroke also damaged his optic nerves, leaving him with limited eye sight. He also has other vision issues including: nystagmus, esotropia, and hyperopia. He has also had a few surgeries, including a G-tube placement.

Damian is on high doses of 2 different anti-seizure meds to try to control his seizures. In then past, 3 other medications have failed, including high dose steriod therapy and the Ketogenic Diet. In Nov of 2016, Damian had his longest seizure which lasted 3 hours total. He has a history of Status Epilepticus (a prolonged seizure that does not stop by itself). At this point, he is having many seizures each day. Sometimes he only has a few, but there are days that he has over 20. He has intractable epilepsy (does not respond to medication) due to the damage that is all over his brain.

He gets PT and OT weekly to aid in his recovery. He also sees a vision therapist and gets teacher visits through our local Early Start program. So far, he is learning to roll and can now sit up for short periods of time alone. He uses AFO braces to correct his ankles and to hopefully help him take steps one day. Most 2.5 year olds are running around and talking, Damian is also non-verbal.

This is his Medical Fund. We are a family of 5 and only his dad is currently working. I stay home to care for Damian. This fund was set up to help with out of pocket costs. Such as some medication he needs, vitamins and supplements, G-tube supplies, trasportation (we are back and forth to the hospital a few times a week), and equiptment. As well as adaptive items that will help him grow and learn.

They say it takes a village to raise a child, that is especially true in the case of a child who is fighting a big battle.
