Friends and family, first thank you all who have prayed countless prayers for Nina. She and her family feel the love and support that everyone has sent their way. This has definitely not something they ever expected. As of today, the doctor told her parents that she is finally over the hurdle but has a long road ahead of her, through the smiles she is still a very sick little girl. Many of you don’t know what brought Nina to the hospital but the first weekend of August she was complaining of a stomach ache and that she didn’t feel good. They thought it was a stomach bug but Nina began to get worse and on Monday, August 5, they took her to their PCP and what looked to be severe dehydration turned into something much worse. They were sent to Children’s Plano, where the ER Dr told them she wasn’t going home but will be admitted. Further results showed she contracted Cryptosporidium (usually found in lakes, ponds, pools) neither of which Nina has been in or around. The first week Nina was in severe pain and had numerous sleepless nights. She wasn’t eating or drinking anything but the pain was getting worse. Nina’s later results showed she had also contracted E-Coli. They transferred her to Children’s Dallas, on the 9th. Here they were met by the Dr who told them she does have E-Coli but this one is called Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) for short. This particular one destroys red blood cells and causes kidney failure. There is no cure for this and this isn’t something she can fight over night it will take time and more weeks of healing in the hospital. Nina has been in the hospital for 15 days now and she is fighting to regain strength and kidney function. We wanted to start a Go Fund me for the family. Cindy and Vincent won’t ever ask for help but this is an unexpected financial burden and we don’t want them to have to worry about anything other than getting Nina home. If you can help in anyway that would be a blessing. This probably won’t help fully with the cost of the medical bills that they will endure after Nina gets out but any little bit helps. Thank you.   #NinaStrong
