Help save the orphan colt

Donation protected
On Monday 6/27/17 a friend received a phone call saying someone had lost a mare and now the three week old colt is orphaned. The people who had originally owned him had him loose on the property (the pasture they were in was at least 50 acres with wooded parts) with the mare and stallion. Luckily the stallion did not kill him but did beat him up a little. They also did not know how many days he had been without his mom. So he is unfortunately severely malnourished, covered in rain rot/sores, and has a hernia that if won't heal on its own will have to be surgically closed.

Now I'll be the first to say that I hate to ask for help with money. But I'm not a rescue. I'm just a person that has a soft spot for cases like this. I have been looking for a rescue that might be able to take him in but most I have heard back from are full and cannot take him in. This is not a horse I'm going to be keeping. He is going to be adopted out once he is all better and old enough.

The costs to raising an orphan foal are high. From the milk replacement pellets being $112 for a 40 lb bag that will last less then 20 days to eventually needing to be gelded and possibly needing the hernia surgery. I am going to be paying out of pocket for everything I can but I will still need help. Even if you can't send money if you could just share it with friends to get the word out.

Thank you
Darby
