Kids Get Kicks
Hello. My name is Mike Keenan. I am in the 8th grade and will be making my confirmation, June 2016. This year, my confirmation class, from Holy Cross Church, has to perform 20 hours of community service. So far, I have completed 10 hours of service. I was looking through my confirmation booklet, for other ideas to help me complete my community service. That's when I saw, "fund raise for a charity". That's when it came to me. Start a fundrasier to collect money for sneakers, shoes and boots, for underprivileged kids. I'm calling it, "Kids Get Kicks".
My friends call me a "sneakerhead". That's a person who loves and collects all types of sneakers. I want to use my passion to help others in my community and possibly, beyond.
All the money that I raise will be used to purchase new sneakers, shoes and boots for kids that can use them in my community. I will work with my priest, Fr. Michael, to discuss the best way to get them to the kids that need them most.
I see kids in school and my community, with old, worn out sneakers, shoes and boots. Guessing that, they may be "hand me downs"? I love the feeling of wearing brand new sneakers, and I'm not sure if any of those kids I've seen, ever had that feeling. That's why, this is important to me. It would be great to give them that feeling that you and I have felt. Plus brand new kicks!
I want to take this time to THANK YOU all in advance, for supporting
"Kids Get Kicks". Also, for helping me complete my community service.
Thank you, again.
WE DID IT!
With YOUR help and the help of Modell's in Middletown NY, I was able to purchase 55 pairs of sneakers, and with a private donation of an additional 17 pairs of sneakers, I was able to provide 72 pairs of sneakers to the kids in my community. My school interviewed me and posted an article on their website. Check it out:
I wanted to thank you all again for helping me reach my goal.
I want to celebrate this milestone by saying THANK YOU, again. Please continue to help me spread the word about my fundraiser. With every goal I reach, I get to help more “kids get kicks”
