Extinction Rebellion had 4 arrests in Denver today, 11/29/19, for their action against consumerism, our climate and ecological emergency, and the need to act now for system change and justice. According to DPD, the four brave people who locked themselves to the sleigh are facing charges for impeding a roadway and disobedience to a lawful order.
The sleigh with its 4 rebel elves magically appeared in a busy intersection in our ritzy Cherry Creek shopping district, by the Cherry Creek mall. It blocked traffic for 3 hours until the fire department arrived to dismantle the sleigh. In a nice touch, the sleigh was full of gifts to all our ally groups: 350, Sunrise Movement, International Indigenous Youth Council, Denver Homeless Out Loud, 4 Winds Indian Council, Abolish ICE, Colorado People's Alliance, and the residents of Elyria-Swansea (the most polluted zip code in the USA, which is in Denver). The event was also the premiere of our own Red Rebel Brigade!!!
We are looking to foremost get our fellow rebels out of jail and follow up with all legal expenses. The cost for this is unknown. I imagine it could run up to $4,000, though it might also be less if we find pro or 'low' bono lawyer support. Any funds raised beyond the current legal expenses will be used for future legal expenses and ongoing organizing. The larger goal amount is there because we will continue to use the goFundMe and continue to do actions until our government makes the needed climate justice changes so that all of our children, regardless of race or economic level, can be gifted a future.
