Lisa's Journey

Spende geschützt
This is our friend, Mother, Wife, Daughter, sister, auntie, cousin, mentor, etc., Lisa Koshel. She is loved and cherished by all that know her.
In June of this year, Lisa was doing one of the things she most loved to do, taking one of her horses out for a ride. It was something she has done hundreds of time, brushing & tacking her horse up, making sure everything was good to go.  Unfortunately, this time Lisa had a riding accident that resulted in a broken back (break at T-12, surgical fusions at T-10 and L-2) and spinal cord trauma. She is currently at St. Joseph's Hospital in Thunder Bay (400 kms  from home) where for the past 5 months she has been recovering from her accident and resulting surgery. She has worked so hard, doing double sessions of physio daily, improving her upper body strength and pushing hard to work any little bit of nerve or muscle life in her lower limbs. It is now time to be transferred back to the Dryden Hospital and to think about going home.
This is where all of you come in! This is our chance to help Lisa not only get home, but to get on with life, being a wife and raising her beautiful daughter Sophie. This has all taken an enormous toll on Lisa's family, both emotionally and financially. Those that have had family/friend in the hospital hundreds of kms away from home will understand how difficult this is, not just because of the worry but the financial stress of traveling, meals, hotels, etc.  There are so many things to be done, things you just wouldn't think of! The occupational therapist has been out to their home to do an assessment and this is where your donations will be directed to.  Renovations are very costly as are the items for Lisa to be mobile.  Some of the immediate needs will be: wheelchair customized for Lisa, wheelchair lift to get into her home, extensive bathroom renovations, an electric bed, etc.  The costs have added up so very quickly!  The sooner some of these things get done the easier it will be for Lisa to be able to finally come home.
Lisa will not be crazy about her friends wanting to do this for her. She is proud and independent but in the same breath she is  the most generous and giving person I know. As the Branch Manager at the local RBC here in Dryden she has been involved with fundraising within this community  of over $100000,  She has been involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters as a mentor, years of 4-H Steer Club, a very active member of every horse organization in the area and head organizer of the NLQHA Horse Show every year. She is also President of the Dryden Girls Hockey Association and a busy hockey Mom! Being an active part of her church community has also been important to Lisa..
We are also hosting a Benefit Social for Lisa on January 21, 2017 at the Agricultural Centre in Dryden, On.
I am humbled, as one of Lisa's friends, to be able to do anything to help her and her family on this journey. Lisa has contributed so much to so many people's lives. I talk to many people in the community and they all ask after Lisa, wanting to know how she's doing, when she's coming home and what they can do to help!
We are so grateful for any donation you are able to make. Your support means so much to Lisa, her husband Mike and daughter Sophie. I know how much they would like to extend their gratitude and thanks for everyone's generosity. And I thank you for reading Lisa's story and  on behalf of all her friends and  family, thank you so much for your generosity!
