My dad got laid off last November so we took that chance to go visit family in Vietnam.  My dad and I left at the very end of 2016 till the second week of January.  A week before we left Vietnam to go back to America, my mom called saying she wasn't feeling too well, a fever maybe.  She went to her family doctor, got a shot, hoping everything is okay.

A week later, we left Vietnam to come back to our hometown in Pineville, a small city located in central Louisiana.  My mom looked fine at the time, or maybe it was just the sheer excitement of seeing her family again.  Two weeks passed and everything seemed okay, right? Oh, how terribly wrong we were. My dad called me on a Tuesday night saying, "Your mom had trouble breathing and she nearly colapsed, so I rushed her to the nearest ER." I go to school at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, which is about an hour and a half from where my parents are at so I immediately took off.  Once I got to the hospital, one of the doctors grabbed me to the side and told me my mom was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). Shocked from disbelief, I told my parents that it was confirmed that my mother has cancer.

The very next day, she was rushed to a Leukemia specialist hospital in Shreveport, LA. The doctors there told me that Leukemia doesn't really go by 'stages' but more of by how many Leukemia cells are actually in your body.  If he were to state her condition it would be at an intermediate level.  My mom stayed in Shreveport for a month and had 2 sessions of Chemo. Once the Chemo kicked in, the side effects were horrendous. She started developing this horrible rash ALL over her body, her face swelled up, she started losing hair, and started losing weight (15lbs to be exact).  Seeing my mom in this condition really broke me down.  Thus, prompting me into doing this GoFundMe, which is the very least I could do for her and our family.

As she started to recover from the side effects, I ended up making the decision to getting her transferred over to MD Anderson, a well known Leukemia Cancer Center in Houston, TX,  in hopes of getting better treatment.  A few days into staying at MD Anderson, the doctors told us that my mom's Leukemia seems to be very resilient and they want to put her on an intense 10 day session of Chemo to try and settle down or get the Leukemia to its weakest point.  Once the Leukemia is at its weakest point, a stem cell transplant is to be commence in hopes of replacing her damaged/diseased bone marrow with healthy blood stem cells.

In agreeing with the doctors, we were told that my mom can stay at the inpatient room during her 10 day session and afterwards she had to stay in Houston for at least 3 months in close proximity for followups, blood work, etc.  A week after her 10 day session, she started having bad fevers again and was rushed back into the ER. The next day, the doctors called me saying that I need to be in Houston to get screened and tested to see if I'm a healthy match because my mom's condition is worsening and she needs this transplant very soon or it can be life threatening.  Being her only child, I already am a 50% match. My uncle on the hand (her only other relative in the U.S.) has a 25% chance to be a full match.

My mom is the most kind, soft spoken, and caring person ever. She's gone through so much ever since she found out that she had cancer and even before that. I can't even imagine all the pain and sleepless nights that she have had.  I love her very much and if anything were to ever happen to her, I would be so lost.

As you can see, I'm not the most articulate when it comes to explaining stories or the best at writing on a grammatically high level but I am a son with a very sick mother that is desperately in need of help.  My dad is laid off and has been with my mom for most of her days in the hospital.  I'm still in school trying my very best to help my parents as much as I can.  We have absolutely no income coming in, plenty of bills to start paying for, and plenty more problems ahead of us.   So please, if my story has touched you in any way, feel free to donate. Anything helps right now.  Thank you for reading.
