Xena's Eye Removal
Xena is a 5.5 year old Boxer/mix. She has been the best cuddle buddy and happy-go-lucky member of our family since then and everyone who comes in contact with her falls in love! We rescued her in July of 2014. When we got her, she was 70% blind with a diagnosis of progressive retinal atrophy (PRA). We had no idea it would degenerate this quickly, and she has been completely blind for almost 2 years now. Her eyes have been the source of her pain and anxiety and have been costing us 2 ER trips per year along with several follow-up appointmends and medications.
She recently had to go to the ER on 1/30/18 due to some internal bleeding in her left eye. She has retinal detachment in that eye, and an ulcer and numerous blisters in her right eye. Currently, she is on 4 eye drops, an antibiotic ointment, and some chewable steroid pain meds.
This has become too much for Xena to handle and her spirit has gone down. We have made the decision to remove both of her eyes as they are only causing her pain. Her surgery is scheduled for 2/9/18 and we are scraping funds together for this procedure. We want to improve Xena's quality of life and let her know what it's like living with no more pain!
The money from this fund will be used 100% for her surgery.
Thank you in advance for your help. We e truly appreciate it, and Xena sends you lots of hugs and face licks!
