Our mission is to inspire youth through media. Every child deserves a future! Thank you for your support.
The Fitting Room Educational Media Corporation has a mission of informing, uplifting and inspiring teens locally in Connecticut, nationally and internationally through media.
In the summer of 2015, we taught video journalism to 14 youth. The teens were from Bridgeport Connecticut; one of America’s most violent cities. They conducted research and interviews about the causes and solutions to urban violence. This work culminated in a poignant documentary short called ‘UrbanPeacefare; Making Our Lives Matter’. This video has been used in schools to begin dialogue around the topic.
In addition to this our young journalists created six episodes of the web-show ‘The Fitting Room’ which teaches teens about careers in two-minute video vignettes. Along the way students learned public speaking techniques and research strategies. Please visit our You Tube Channel to view these movies, YouTube.com/thefittingroomtv.
We achieved these results on a budget of less than $2000 through generous donations of volunteer hours, loaned equipment and space donated by The Hall Neighborhood House in Bridgeport CT. And through the support of Youthworks; a program that paid the summer interns for their hours in our program.
We are ready to grow in order to help more youth both locally and over the web. In 2016, we want to be empowered to apply for grants that can provide funding for our programs. We want to transform ourselves from being a CT non-profit to being a federal 501 (c) 3 nonprofit so that we are eligible for a wider variety of grants. We are asking for donations to sustain us over the next few months and for funds to cover our application to the IRS to become a federal nonprofit. Please help us continue to make media which has the potential to save and enrich lives. Please keep us empowered to teach youth locally. Thank you for your donation!
