Bratislava Supports Refugees

£19,846 of £20k goal

Raised by 256 people in 18 months
We are a group of people living in Bratislava - British, Slovak and other nationalities - who have seen that thousands of refugees are arriving in Central Europe by the day. They have nothing and they arrive to nothing and without support from the state they are not able to find food or shelter. We have met people without food, shoes and even without underwear - no one should have to exist in such a state. We would like your support to purchase food and  clothing to help them to feel a little bit better at such a traumatic time. Anything that you can give is welcome.

Even more that we have been able to give- we have earned a lot but we continue to spend a lot and we desperately need more donations to provide to help as needed in this region.

Thanks to your very generous donations we've been working very hard to support refugees in the area in a number of ways. We've supported the 40 men and 10 women at Berg camp by providing warm clothing, shoes, basic food, cooking equipment, toiletries, sports equipment and pyjamas as requested. We were also able to hold a lovely social event - a bbq that was such a happy event that everyone was dancing and one man was laughing for the first time since his arrival. You helped us to create that sense of joy. We have been to Gabčikovo camp where we able to provide expensive and otherwise unaffordable head lice treatments - this sounds like such a horrible thing to provide but the relief on the faces of the mothers when they realised that their children were going to be helped brought a tear to my eye. We were also able to leave enough treatments and preventative sprays that this will no longer be a problem. We have provided art equipment so that the camp psychiatrist can work with the children and provide art therapy, warm clothing, shoes, CD players, sewing machines and toiletries. Finally, we have also visited the border at Slovenia - Austria where we gave our time to help in the kitchen and we distributed fruit, clothes, life-saving thermal blankets, blankets and rucksacks, hats and gloves as well as giving a donation towards food for the kitchens that have been set up there to serve hot meals to the arrivals. Where possible we give donated clothes but we have also spent over £1700 on new clothing that isn't donated like gloves, pjs and underwear. Please continue to give so that we can keep helping at the heart of the need - we continue to spend every penny that you give us on direct aid and we continue to be very grateful for every single donation.
Just a few of the things we purchased this week.

Another successful weekend of donating food to the arrivals at the Austrian-Hungary border. Your donations have made it possible for us to feed 5 train loads of people with fresh fruit, handmade cheese rolls, Horalky wafer bars and chocolate croissants. We were also able to buy fleeces, socks and rucksacks. We know that they will keep arriving for the foreseeable future so we'd be very grateful if you would either consider making another donation to our fund or persuade a friend to do so!!! Helping someone at the most difficult time in their life is a good thing and we are very grateful for your support to allow us to do it.
This is just the food from one day!
