Wonderland Thrift: Giving Mission

Wonderland Thrift is a busy community store. Registered charity number: 17935.  

Since 2008 we have operated fully on the proceeds from the sale of donated items to the store. Those funds are used directly to assist local families and individuals with help at the very source of the need. Generated funds from the proceeds of sale are used directly and immediately to help those in need with elecrity bills, gas bills, rental assistance,  home heating oil, direct financial assistance, new beds for families, some of whom were previously sleeping on the floor.  Wonderland provides gas cards, grocery cards, vehicle fixes, back to work assistance, travel expenses, home and furniture assistance. 

Wonderland Thrift is proud to say we are the innovators of a fantastic free clothing voucher program for those in need. We wanted to ensure that firstly, we share our resources as much as possible and that everyone in our community has access to at the very least basic clothing, furniture and house-hold items at no cost. We achieve this through public donations of re-sellable items. We also offer tax receipts with our Tax ID available.  Our clothing program reached $60, 000 last year and this year, we see the need already over-reaching that.

Our outreach programs which include any Social Services Agency, has access to all of our assistance programs. These agencies pass our vouchers to those in need, so that families and individuals can shop in the store for what they need and enjoy the whole shopping experience in our clean, friendly store. Our vouchers are given at no cost and our outreach programs include, WIC, Families First, Child & Family Services, St. Vincent De Paul, food pantries, Newborns in Need, Helping Hands Agency, winter clothing drives, scarves/hats/gloves donastions, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Seacoast Mental Health, local churches, doctors offices, town offices, teachers, medical professionals, mental health professionals and more.

Wonderland is 100% non profit and has always promised to keep prices in the store extremely low so that everyone regardless of income can afford to shop with us. We do not agree with high prices on any level, and especially not any registered charity. Our adult clothing items are $2.00,  less for baby and childrens items.

We pay an astronomical amount of rent at our current property and as NNN, we are also responsible for inside maintenance costs.  If we had more funds available, we would be able to continue of mission of giving and save some funds for a deposit on a property of our own.

We have never had any funds from grants, government or other.  We have never asked for anything such as this before and we hope and pray that we can raise some funds for a deposit for a mortgage. Wonderland does not have any extra money to save, as we ensure it is all given away.

The boss says she has the best team in the world and it would be of huge benefit to our community and our team, if we could purchase a building (locally) of our own. We can provide our services to volunteer to bring even an older building to standard.

As a relatively new business, we will need some amount of funds to start the process of purchasing a property.

If Wonderland Thrift had its own property, we believe it would simply create more of our magic in our community.

Wonderland is not possible without its team, customers and donors.

Current other services offered by Wonderland include community service hours, volunteer opportunities, Work Place Success, Step Up Program, local employment and support for other local charities as well as our wonderful community.
