Picnic Point Preservation

Donation protected
Help us preserve 22 acres of old forest land in the heart of the Picnic Point watershed basin. This land is steeply forested and drains into the wetland and Picnic Point Creek that flow into the Puget Sound just south of Mukilteo. Building here will introduce significant environmental risks to neighborhood homes and surronding native habitat. The increase of traffic by 1150 vehicles daily, especially around the local elementary schools, will be a safety hazard.

This land is the last large untouched acreage in a heavily developed area, and the building of 112 homes on this property is imminent. Despite the land movement, erosion and stormwater water management risks the county is processing the permitting for approval. Clearcutting could begin as early as spring 2016.

The community would love see this land preserved as a park and trail-head that would permanently protect the ecosystem and the surronding neighborhoods from a risky development and traffic-safety issues, and keep the watershed, creek and Puget Sound sustained.

The Snohomish County Parks & Recreation Department would like to see this land acquired and linked to the Picnic Point Beach Park via a trail through the acreage. Allowing visitors the opportunity to see 100 year old trees, listen to dozens of varieties of birds and owls, and observe the young salmon in the creek as it meanders towards the Sound.

Please help the Picnic Point Preservation Committee raise funds to work with professionals to identify the risks of building on this land and communicating that to the Snohomish County planning department.
