My name is Amy Dittmer. Wife. Mother. Follower of Jesus.
My heart has been deeply burdened by the Syrian Refugee Crisis for many months now. Hopefully many of you have heard me talk about it. The devastation and desperation continues to grow and I cannot stay away from it any longer.
Just under a year ago Restore Church embarked on a mission to respond to the crisis in a meaningful and lasting way. We sent teams to Athens, Greece to serve and connect with Syrian, Afghan, and Iraqi refugees. A team went in May and again in November. On these trips it was made evident that the horrific experiences of these people could not be ignored. So we’re going back.
On March 9th 2017 I will be heading out with a team of 10 people from Restore Church to serve in Greece. We will be there for 8 days. On this trip we will be moving closer to the front lines of the crisis. We will be serving at a UNHCR refugee camp on the Greek Isle of Lesvos. This is the first place Syrian refugees get to breathe a sigh of relief after months of traveling on foot with all of their belongings on their backs and little children at their feet. These are people who need to experience love, safety, and rest. I’ll be aiding in things like: making and serving food/tea, playing with children, providing warm blankets, holding and caring for babies etc. Trying to fill as many immediate needs as possible. They’re currently very short staffed and need all the help they can get. The organization we are working directly with is called Servant Group International (SGI) and they have an impressive track-record of serving Muslims across the globe.
My prayer is that these new friends of mine would feel loved and tenderly cared for. Embraced and accepted.
I hope you choose to support me in this endeavor! All of your donations will be used for me to go and be with these people- my flights, room accommodations and meals. $1000 will be withdrawn by Restore Church to pay for flights on 1/29/17. The additional funds will be allocated to Servant Group International prior to the trip to cover the rest of my expenses. Any donations beyond my $2800 goal will be given to SGI to continue their efforts in serving refugees.
