Alice Walls Catholic Scholarship
Hi! You may have heard Mom (Aunt Alice/Nanny) is in the hospital again. This time with four broken vertebrae. Not because of a fall or accident but most likely due to osteoporosis. You probably know Mom worked three jobs to put us all through Catholic school. She volunteered at the school, at the Church, and was still paying tuition well after I (the youngest) graduated. Just last year she started the first annual Rosary Crusade at Our Lady of Lourdes Church to pray for wisdom for our country's leaders and has been leading a rosary making group encompassing members of many Christian faiths that distributes rosaries to the sick, the needy, and those in mourning across the country. At her 87th birthday in May we announced that we were starting a scholarship in her name. The Alice Walls Catholic Families Scholarship will provide money to a financially needy child to help offset the costs to attend Melbourne Central Catholic High School for a school year. The money will not go to the family itself but to the school under the child's name. Please help us make this dream a reality! Any donation, whatever size, is helpful and puts a child in Catholic school that normally would not be able to attend. As St. Don Bosco said, "The true Christian obeys his parents, his teachers, [and] his superiors because he sees in them God Himself, Whose place they take." If only her shoes could be filled. Thank you and God Bless. Carol, Donna, Linda, Alan, Janet, Alice, and Lisa Walls+ Read More
Just an update to let folks know how Nanny/Aunt Alice is doing. It's been a roller coaster of a recovery with one step forward and two steps back. But she has a great grand daughter and a great grand son due in the Spring to keep her focused and the cutest little great grandson who is six months old to visit her now. Thank you to everyone who has visited. We can really tell a huge difference in her health and well being when family comes to visit. Laughter is the best medicine!
I wanted to send a shout out to everyone who came and visited Aunt Alice/Nanny on Saturday. She had really been slipping down hill fast and I knew that seeing you would make her rally. And she did. She really turned a corner yesterday and while weak, felt so much better. I know I'll forget some and I'm sorry. But a big shout out to Eva and Mason, Frankie and Marsha, Kathy and Penny and Penny's daughter. thank you so much. It meant the world!
Asking for prayers for Aunt Alice/Mom/Nanny. She has not had a good last two days. She has fluid in the left lung and is very weak. If you're local and can visit, now is the time. Please keep her in your prayers. She is a strong woman of mind, body, and faith. They just don't make them like that anymore.
I wanted to give all of you an update on Mom (aka Nanny, Aunt Alice). She was in the rehabilitation center getting ready to go home but came down with pneumonia. They called 9-1-1 in the middle of the night Friday night and took her back to the hospital. If you haven't had a chance to donate to the scholarship fund in her name this is a wonderful time to do it. I read her all the comments folks had written. I told her we could have a classroom named after her instead and she said "no, that's for a child to get a good Carholic education". She said it in that stubborn way that Granny had. So you know she meant it!
