stroke recovery

In 2006,I went in for a regular hernia repair.  It was supposed to be a routine procedure that required a two day hospital stay, a few days of rest at home and then back to my normal daily routine.  Unfortunately, that's not what happened.

After my surgery I suffered a ischemic stroke, that left me with the left side of my body paralysed.   My two day hospital stay became three months, and my daily routine has never been the same.

While I was in the hospital, my days were filled with physiotherapy sessions to help me learn to stand again and later learn to  walk.  Occupational therapists had  to teach me basic tasks such as dressing myself and personal hygeine.

When I finally left the hospital, I was able to take a few steps, and my left arm was still paralysed.  I had many challenges ahead of me to try and get back to a normal life.  My goal was to re-gain my mobility and I was ready to do whatever it took.

Three months after my stroke, I was attending a physio therapy session and I had a grand mal seizure.  My Neurologist explained that I had developed epilepsy after my stroke.  I am now on life long anticonvulsants to prevent me from having further seizures.

I have spent years trying to rehabilitate myself.  I have seen physio therapists, functional neurology,  chiropractors, oestopaths, accupuncturists, and  massage therapists.  I have undergone Botox injections, tried herbal remedies, elctronic muscle stimulation, and hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy.  These therapies have cost me thousands of dollars over the years.

Today I continue to require therapy fo both my physical  and brain recovery.  I require assistance with my day to day living requirements.  I need help with housekeeping, personal hygiene and meal preparation.

i am seeking finacial assistance to continue on my journey of recovery  doing functional neurology-maintaining brain balance function therapy. I cannot believe ten years of my life have passed.  since this devastating stroke changed my life from being gainfully employed and able to interact with my daughters my youngest was 3 when i suffered this stroke I have never pivked my little girl up again who is now 13- I missed taking off training wheels of her bike my eldest is now 17 I missed my girls graduating steps of childhood. Right now they will not stay alone with me as they witnessed my first Grand Mal seizure- took a while to get them under control. It was scary for young women to see their father 's eyes roll back foam at the mouth  shake uncontrollably then pass out. It traumatized them they carry it till this day I  need to get back to normal its been too long stuck being paralyzed. My quality of life has suffered tremendously with my current disability. I have not been able to return to work as i have poor balance and stiffness in all muscles on the left side of my  worst in the winter months so continuos phys is a must.  i can only wear track pants or elastic waste pants as I am unable to button or zip up regular slacks or jeans because my left arm and fingers are non-funtional-need help to get back in my lane of life
