My Nickels for Nepal Volunteer trip

$251 of $3,000 goal

I am a retired teacher from Chattanooga, TN. My name is Christine Hockert and I am also the Chairman of the Board for Nickels for Nepal  a non-profit organization established in 2009 by teachers from Chattanooga, Tennessee to raise funds to obtain school supplies, uniforms, curriculum materials, and facility support for remote village schools in Nepal.
Nickels for Nepal is registered as a non-profit Federal 501c3 and no one gets paid through the non-profit foundation. All funds raised go directly to Nepal to support the programs we support in the remote village schools, and educational needs of the school children.  All travel expenses are paid by individual volunteers visiting Nepal to travel to remote village schools. I have traveled to Nepal in 2010 and again in 2014 as the Chairman of the Board for Nickels for Nepal at my own expense. Due to the disastrous earthquakes in Nepal I am planning on going back to Nepal  in September for three weeks to visit the remote Mijar Village and Gorkha Village schools to check on the status of the schools and the students we sponsor as well as develop a fundraising goal to meet their needs for next year.  I will also be visiting other remote villages that were severely impacted by the disastrous earthquakes to determine how we can  provide  educational assistance to the village schools. As a retired teacher I am on a very fixed income and need help to pay for this important volunteer trip in September.  Donations received will be used to cover my  expected travel  expenses of $1500.00 for airfare, $100.00 ground transportation, $50.00 for visa application,  $1250.00 lodging, and $100.00 for meals. Any support you could provide will be greatly appreciated.

We continually receive word from Nepal that the monsoon season is extremely bad this year. In the Mijar Village they have suffered the loss of homes due to the quakes and now they are worried about landslides from the monsoon rains because the earth has already been cracked open in several areas. I am looking forward to my trip in September to help the schools and school children in the remote villages in Nepal that were severely impacted by the earthquakes and now monsoons.

Monsoon season in Nepal is a cause for concern. We are worried about landslides that have already totally destroyed two remote villages in the east of Nepal. During my volunteer trip in September for Nickels for Nepal I hope to visit several remote villages including the Mijar and Gorkha villages to determine their school needs for the next year.
