The Guardians of the National Treasure (GNT) is a non-profit organisation that helps under-privileged children and families on a daily basis with food, education, clothing, sports and other activities in Lavender Hill, Cape Town, South Africa. The GNT works to champion culture and community spirit through voluntary and community action, working inclusively and non-violently with the community.
The suburb of Lavender Hill is in the Cape Flats, an area of high unemployment to the south-east of the Central Business District of Cape Town. The area is also called ‘Gangland’ with high levels of poverty, violence, gun and gang related crime. Parents have problems collecting their children from schools in high risk areas and high school graduates cannot find jobs or further training. Gangs use children as young as 10 or 12 years old to deliver and sell drugs. We help to keep these kids busy with support and activities, especially sport.
The GNT activities include holiday and out-of-school programmes and sport for children and young people in Lavender Hill. We also provide free meals for those most in need. In the future, we hope to grow our programmes and also create a safe house for the most vulnerable children.
We are registered and partnered with CAFDA (http://www.cafda.org.za) and Learning in Reach (https://learninginreach.org.za).
Your donation could help fund: day for a child on the holiday programme, a sports training session, a sports team, a meal or a haircut:
$1 (16 ZAR) = Family membership for a month (covering basic advice and support, CV writing, photocopies, emails, emergency phone calls, emergency support for hospitalization, weekly soup kitchen)
$10 (160ZAR) = 10 sport sessions for one player (there are currently 300 soccer boys and 100 netball girls)
$25 (400ZAR) = 10 day School Holiday Programme for one child (covering safeguarding, development and delivery, part of community upliftment and transformation)
$50 (800ZAR) = Helps fund cultural events, educational excursions, workshops and wellness sessions
$100 (1600ZAR) = Gives educational support towards school fees , stationary and tutoring for a year for one child
$1000 (16000ZAR) = Funds an all inclusive wellness package and family intervention for a year, anti drug workshops and holistic lifestyle with sport, arts, education and body & soul intervention: GNT Institution of Kindness Package.
However any donation, however small, will help us towards achieving our goals. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
