Pit Bull Spay/Neuter Assistance

Donation protected

Contra Costa Humane Society loves Pit Bulls who to us are the sweetest and most loyal dogs ever.  Currently there are too many that are homeless so we work hard and strive to have pit bulls fixed and provided for so that they are able to stay in their existing homes with their loving families.

Two great challenges face CCHS:

1) The over population of pit bulls result in a very large number of pit bulls or pit mixes that are miss-treated, abandoned, relinquished to public shelters and sometimes euthanized.

According to the 'Examiner' in 2011, 'Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes make up roughly 33% of shelter intakes nationally but in large cities it can be up to 40-65%. Studies estimate that up to 1 MILLION Pits are euthanized in public shelters or 2,800 per day. The euthanasia rate is approximately 95% for only 1 in 600 pits find a forever home.'

Other articles sight that since then the rate of Pits being relinquished to public shelters has raised 40%.

One female dog can produce two litters of 6-10 pups per year and in six years those dogs can produce 67,000 dogs.

2) In this economy it is also hard to make ends meet for residents. Since they are larger dogs, spay/neuter is often cost prohibitive in the Bay Area resulting in litter after litter and then possibly abandonment or worse.

We need your help with our CCHS Pit Spay/Neuter Assistance Fund to bridge the gap to provide services to low income residence for their pits to be fixed. This helps decrease the number of pits, and helps them stay in their homes and out of the shelters. We are happy to say that $1,000 has already been generously donated to start this campaign.

Contra Costa Humane Society (CCHS) is a 23 year old rescue working to save the homeless, hurting and hungry dogs and cats of our county. Our programs include adoptions, a free roaming cat shelter, dog foster program, AniMeals (supplemental pet food and supply program that feeds 350+ low income families pets monthly) and SNAP spay/neuter assistance program for extremely low and very low income residents.

We cannot do this without you and appreciate your help today!
