Make his house more accessible!

LT Steven Simmons is recently retired from the US NAVY who underwent treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in DC. In March of 2011, Steve was aboard the USS RONALD REAGAN as they were the first ship to report to the coast of Japan following the tsunami and earthquake that ravaged their shores on March 11, 2011. For over a month, the REAGAN sat 200 yards off the coast as the FUKUSHIMA nuclear reactor melted down. Steve is now one of a few hundred Sailors and Marines that are sick. Between November of 2011 and now, Steve has gone from a healthy, active man to a shaking, withering, wheelchair bound patient. He has lost the ability to walk as he now suffers from debilitating progressive, ascending muscle weakness. He has lost the ability to do many of the everyday things that we take for granted. We spent almost everyday at WRNMMC and yet, after all that time, the doctors refused to give him a diagnoses, a treatment plan, or any sort of answer. Because of the nature of his disability, even though he has WARRIOR STATUS and a 100% rating, he is ineligible for assistance from most of the nonprofits who advertise help for Wounded Warriors. Because he is not an amputee and he does not suffer from a TBI, he is invisible. Steve is incapable of using his legs but because he has them, he is not considered a "boots on ground injury" and is therefore ineligible for traditional assistance building an accessible home in our home state of Utah to accommodate the wheelchair that he now has no option but to use. We are purchasing a home, please help us modify it for his comfort and use!
