NMAHA is a healing arts school for bodywork and massage. This amazing school was founded in 1981 and has been a leader in providing excellent, high-standard schooling for massage therapists. We have graduated thousands of massage therapists over the years, who are employed immediately. Our curriculum is extensive and our students are happy students who are well-prepared for the world they are stepping into. NMAHA is the only healing arts school in NM accredited by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA) and attracts world-renowned teachers to its faculty.
However, like massage therapy schools everywhere, NMAHA has taken a financial hit since the 2008 Recession because lending institutions have pulled back so deeply from making private student loans. In the past 18 months, NMAHA has had to turn away 57 student applicants because of their inability to obtain private loans.
To rectify this situation, NMAHA has undergone a rigorous application process with the US Department of Education to become eligible to administer the DOE's Title IV loans, and has met all of the Department's criteria except financial. With our best and most intense efforts we have not been able to secure the letter of credit required.
Having left no stone unturned, NMAHA now faces closure. We see two options (and we’re open to more):
1) Finish the classes for our current students and close the school. In order for this class to complete the diploma program before we close, we need $62,000
2) Reorganize, and raise the money or find someone interested in purchasing the school. We estimate the investment to be approx. $450,000 to carry the school through the completion of the Title IV process.
We are devastated to have encountered too many hurdles before completing our Title IV approval. We want to keep serving students.
If we must close, we ask your help to at least ensure our final class of students can graduate.
