WS Harlan School Historical Marker
Donation protected
W.S. Harlan School has served the students of the Lockhart area for nearly 100 years, even longer if you count the time before it was known by that name.
The Alabama Historical Association has approved W.S. Harlan School's application for an historical marker, which will address the impact Jackson Lumber Company's manager W.S. Harlan had on the community and the school. The marker will be double-sided with the front documenting the establishment of Lockhart as a mill town and the contributions Lockhart lumber made to many important American constructions, such as Grand Central Station. The reverse side of the marker will document the history of the school and its buildings. The grammar school building at W. S. Harlan School is the oldest schoolhouse in Covington County still functioning as a school.
Please support the school's efforts to raise the money needed to purchase and install this marker to officially acknowledge and preserve for posterity the contributions this school has made to the community and the lives of so many students.
