Wrapping Our Babies in Love

As many of our friends are aware, both of our children have "High Functioning" Autism. This is simply a fancy way of saying that, intellectually, they are both on the same level as their peers. But, they both have many sensory and emotional issues. Teagan also has ADHD and anxiety disorder and Trevor has anxiety disorder and is over-coming a speech delay. To say that our household is a constant roller coaster is an understatement!
Our babies are everything to us, and we wouldn't change a thing about them... except maybe their sleep patterns. There really is not rhyme or reason to their sleep (as is the norm in many Autistic households). We may go several nights with a full night's sleep, and then spend the next two weeks with one or both of them only sleeping 3-5 hours. We have tried Melatonin and Valerian root with some success, but neither seems to work for long.
The funds from this campaign will be used to purchase weighted blankets for both children. Both benefit from deep pressure "hugs" and weight to relax; and weighted blankets are known to help them fall asleep easier and stay asleep longer. Weighted blankets are very pricey, but we have found an Etsy site to purchase them called Autistic Rabbit. The young man who makes the affordable blankets has Autism himself, so the money will continue to support the Autism community.
We will also be using the money for Big Joe beanbags for both children and "chewelry" for Teagan. The beanbags are large and deep and can wrap around the kids after school or before bed to help them relax and destress. Teagan is a chewer and wears "chewelry" (chewy necklaces and bracelets) so she won't chew on her nails, clothes and hair. She has already destroyed 3 necklaces since Spring, but we have found a company that makes extra-tough chewelry that should last longer. :)
